Scanning Solution Suits Small Workgroups
LAKE SUCCESS , N.Y. -- March 17, 2006 -- Canon U.S.A. Inc. has unveiled a digital scanning solution for workgroup document imaging and general office applications. Model DR-1210C handles distributed imaging and general office workloads. It is a desktop scanning solution for most small workgroups and home offices, according to the manufacturer.

Capabilities include:

Store and retrieve documents using keyword-searchable PDF creation
Distribute information with one-touch button functionality
Convert and organize contact information via business card scanning
Secure sensitive documents by creating encrypted and password-protected PDF files
Automate file name creation through OCR capabilities for simplified indexing.
The DR-1210C comes equipped with a 35-page automatic document feeder and platen glass flatbed. Performing light-batch processes, the device scans letter-sized documents at 12 pages per minute in both color and monochrome at resolutions to 300 dpis. Software includes CapturePerfect 3.0, Presto! BizCard Reader 5, Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Standard, and Nuance OmniPage SE 4.

An intuitive control panel helps users navigate job functions and increase workflow efficiency, the company claims. Users can initiate scan operations using three dedicated buttons for Scan-to-Print, Scan-to-File, and Scan-to-E-mail, as well as five programmable buttons for assigning imaging functions.

The U.S. suggested retail price of the DR-1210C is $449, and will begin shipping April 3, 2006. The device will be available through authorized Canon U.S.A. imaging dealers and resellers. It will be on display at the Canon booth #1624 during the AIIM / On Demand show in Philadelphia, May 16-18, 2006,
