First is this your actual reply to the account looking at thoseToshiba products listed (455 & 305)? If yes and they have a great history with the Toshiba product, telling them there a "bottom dweller" would make anyone think that you're only wanting to sell them what YOU'RE offering. The models they requested are older models of Toshiba and who knows if they've worked well for them or not. Also if you research the Okidata product, most of their MFP's are based on the Toshiba platform now...

Actually, I did not mention that I am offering any equipment to them. I'm not even sure where they are located, I'm not looking to sell them, All of the recent MFP's that I've seen at the shows have pretty much the same GUI> I do remember something about a more robust partnering with Toshiba/

FYI: Toshiba, overall, is in the top ten for R&D Spend-to-Sales ratios. "Bottom dweller" really is not a fair use of words. With any device manufacturer, product is only as good as its dealer support. Get references if need be. RE: maintenance; The asker is talking B&W devices not color. Regardless, get the maintenance. Fewer spikes in copy quality or hardware issues because you'll make that phone call to fix rather than putting up with poor copy quality, etc. for fear of how much it...

TimB: Thanx for the comment! I believe you with the top ten in R & D for Spend to Sales ratios, but I don't R & D being conducted for copiers not like Canon, Xerox, KonicaMInolta & Xerox. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck then it must be a duck. Toshiba's market share over the last ten years in the US has always been at or near the bottom of the pack, thus they are cellar dwellers, bottom feeders, in the US market. First of all, from my experience, doctors seem to be notoriously cheap when it comes to office equipment. The thought of giving their staff decent office equipment is not on their radar. They'd rather invest in the latest medical equipment or gadget, Mercedes/BMW, or hobby. That being said, re: HP printers, depending on the model, some of those older printers (like any in the 4000's) print pretty darn cheaply. Divide, say, $125 or $150 by 20,000 and that's pretty darn cheap. They have a hard...

I wonder if there is a preferred supplier of copiers to the Trump organization? Any arm twisting would likely start there. With the USA's withdrawal from the TPP, a relocation of the copier industry seems unlikely. Multiple copier manufacturers already produce their toner in the USA. Living in Canada, with the high US $, a copier produced in the USA would be a distinct disadvantage. I am reasonably certain that the USA is the largest market for copiers in the world.

I used to be in the manufacturing of Servers for HP (working for a Contractor to them). Eventually, we lost the contract to a competitor, in another state, because their labor was going to be $2 a machine less. This of course builds up with thousands of units. Eventually, the whole contract went first to Mexico, then to Singapore (we were already getting most of our sub-assemblies from Singapore anyway), and eventually to China. I went for one state to the other, then almost went to Mexico...

Hi Art, Here’s my prediction for the future: A3 MFP’s will be bought on the internet without any interference from sales-reps, print-specialists, installation-technicians, etc. etc. I think the Copier Industry isn’t any different from Audio/Video, Household-appliances, Insurances, Phones, Vacations, Cars, and all other business of which we thought we would always need a technical- or sales specialist? Don't forget that Epson just released their new A3 inkjet MFP. Very interested to see how that pans out as well! Customers are willing to pay more to not have to worry about monthly print usage and have a predictable monthly payment. This seems crazy at first, but then I thought about it and it's everywhere... Hi Art The Pagewide service model is the one we use for our Canon ImagePROGRAF plotters. Based upon customer's needs, we quote an annual contract for service. This contract, like the original 1- year warranty from Canon, excludes user- replaceable items (ink, paper, printhead(s), and maintanence cartridge). If the system includes a scanner, we account for that in the quoted price. So essentially, we will repair / replace any item not user-replaceable. Canon offers the same "service" contract...
