Re: Ricoh Canada Inc. signs agreement to acquire Commonwealth Legal Inc.

Art Post ·
I mentioned that acquisitions like this one in my 2014 MFP predictions or was it 2013. MFP manufacturers will need to continue this trend of buying technology companies so that they can off-set the loss of clicks. I would expect in the near future to see some Document Management software providers snapped up, along with some other popular third party solutions. I believe the age of manufacturers acquiring dealers is on the downward swing.

Hi Art. Do you have access to an environmental calculator? i.e. Plugging in their current units and comparing them against your proposed units and getting a break down of the "environmental" savings (CO2 emmissions, Kilowatt hours, Energy savings, trees saved, etc.)

Re: The Future of Scanning for MFP's aka Copiers is in the Cloud

Czech ·
Art, Interesting read! Here's a little "trick" I figured out. Setting up Cloud Scanning is very easy and can be without any additional software if the cloud storage offers a folder on your PC. For example, Dropbox and Google Drive when installed place "drag and drop" folders on your desktop. You can then set up a small workflow for scanning to the cloud by registering a Scan To Shared Folder and set the Dropbox or Google Drive folder as your destination. Your scanned document will...

Czech Thanx for the reply, you have been scanning to a single folder on dropbox for years and recently added google drive on the 5 year old MFP we used in the sales area. You could set up multiple "buttons" on the MFP for additional folders.

Re: The Future of Scanning for MFP's aka Copiers is in the Cloud

jswinberlin ·
I can't say that I agree that scan to email or folder are dying in my experience. Scanning to Office 365 should only require a special connector configuration in the hub transport layer. Like traditional scan to email or folder the first time is difficult and it doesn't seem like it's worth the effort but in time it should become more simple. "Scan to Cloud" seems to be a vague term as most people who are looking for a solution like this may be referring to scanning to their application...

JS: ok, maybe I shouldn't have used "dying", let me say that users are looking for more options than scan2email or scan2folder. Most I talk wish there were more options that would save them time. I agree, mist want to scan back to their business line of software. Thanx for the comment!!

Re: SINDOH N707 -- Smart Solution Hybrid MFP

txeagle24 ·
It's kind of nifty, but I can't see any of my clients making a buying decision based on that niche feature. It's really slow, an odd process, & in all reality, if they need to scan an 11x17 document, it was probably printed internally, & a lot more A3 MFPs are sold than A3 SFPs, so it's likely that they have an A3 MFP if they need to scan 11x 17.

Re: SINDOH N707 -- Smart Solution Hybrid MFP

Agreed, for years I've been an advocate of having an A4 MFP that was able to scan A3. We had them years ago with Minolta analog copiers. It's a great selling feature and sometimes that's all we need to move to product.

If the software really only allows for one sided printing your only option I know of would be to force duplexing at the printer level or do a print to file or print to PDF then print the PDF duplexed and stapled.

Art, I know on many models you can set the PCL defaults (EX: Two Sided & Duplex). These will be ignored when you print form a PCL Driver because the Driver will over ride the defaults. But if they print from a host system the MFD PCL defaults will be used. The other thing you can propose,(Most Host Admins will hate the idea) is set up a Windows Print Driver on a Windows Server. make sure LPD is running and set the Printing Preferences (I also set the Printing Defaults) to DX & Staple...
