Keypoint Intelligence - Buyers Lab (BLI), the world’s leading independent evaluator of document imaging software, hardware, and services, today announced the winners of its BLI PaceSetter awards in Manufacturing, Logistics, and Retail. To determine which OEMs lead in these important vertical market segments, analysts at Keypoint Intelligence conducted an in-depth evaluation with participating document imaging vendors that drilled into over 60 points of differentiation spread across key categories: MFP Hardware, Other Hardware, Service & Support, Professional Services, Security, and Market Leadership.

“The manufacturing, logistics, and retail segments have always faced unique challenges, and these have only been compounded by the unprecedented environment resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Jamie Bsales, Director of Smart Workplace & Security Analysis at Keypoint Intelligence. “Partners who serve customers in these markets need to enable those customers to be agile, efficient, and innovative, while also helping them drive out cost and increase productivity wherever possible. The three document imaging vendors we honor with these awards have proven they can deliver on all these fronts.”

HP AND LEXMARK SHARE THE TOP SPOT IN MANUFACTURING
HP demonstrated a deep knowledge of the issues facing manufacturers and has developed a broad range of print technology ranging from handheld label printers to powerful graphics devices to cover the various applications needed in a factory, warehouse, or office. Outside of print and signage, HP’s Multi Jet Fusion and Metal Jet 3D print technology is available for on-demand manufacturing, while computing technology (including virtual reality and immersive computing) helps transform how products are designed, built, and distributed.

Lexmark earned top marks thanks to its rugged designs built to withstand the rigors of factory life. Print capabilities designed expressly for manufacturers include the ability to handle specialty media, print GHS (Globally Harmonized System) labels for flagging chemical shipments, and (on select Lexmark devices) create RFID tags on demand so boxes can be tracked more easily. On the software front, the company’s Supply Chain Document Optimization offering automates and streamlines the manual and paper-based processes in supply-chain environments.

TOSHIBA UNDERSTANDS LOGISTICS
Toshiba showed a strong understanding of the logistics market, including needs around data capture, product labeling, safety communications, information security, and technical support. From the moment that goods arrive on the warehouse floor, they can be processed and labeled—helping to speed up movement of these goods, ensure they are properly marked, and keep accurate tabs on inventory. Toshiba’s unique double-sided label printer lets workers print a shipping label on one side of the label media and a packing slip or return label on the other.

HP AND LEXMARK ARE EQUAL IN RETAIL, TOO
HP’s strong portfolio of inkjet, laser, PageWide, production, wide format, and specialty point-of-sale (POS) print devices give it an impressively complete output-hardware portfolio. HP also offers a full line of POS solutions—from traditional setups for check-out counters, to standalone kiosks that let customers help themselves, to fully mobile tablet-based systems that let store associates interact with customers side by side on the sales floor. Additional value for retail partners comes via HP’s display division, which can provide large screen displays and image players that let retailers create an engaging, immersive experience.

Lexmark landed in the top tier thanks to its strong portfolio’s proven track record in creating labels and patient information packs for pharmacies, shelf tags and signage for stores, multi-part inserts for ship-to-store applications, output from customer-facing kiosks, and more. Lexmark also scored well thanks to its Print and Digital Signage solution, which allows retailers to publish shelf-edge signs, digital signs, electronic shelf labels and more, all from a single platform tied to the retailer’s back-end systems.
