Inofile announced today that it is partnering with Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. (Konica Minolta), a leader in information management focused on enterprise content, technology optimization and cloud services, to remove outdated fax technology from all healthcare settings using the Kno2 clinical document exchange platform. Available through Konica Minolta’s EnvisionIT Healthcare solution portfolio, Kno2 is now fully integrated with bizhub multifunctional printers (MFPs), enabling providers to replace fax while using similar devices with this extended functionality.

“For healthcare to truly evolve and eliminate fax, every care setting needs to be able to securely exchange patient information simply and affordably,” says Jon Elwell, CEO of Inofile. “Inofile continues to extend the accessibility of Kno2 to healthcare organizations nationwide by giving them direct message capabilities from the devices they use every day. Now every care provider can create a single resource for securely exchanging patient information with referral and other care partners, improving communication and efficiency across the industry to enhance patient care. It’s a very unique situation because the same technology that helped to proliferate fax has now evolved to be the technology that also will eliminate it. This is the only integrated MFP and cloud solution that is able to do that.”

Inofile created a Kno2 interface for the Konica Minolta bizhub MFPs, the first devices to be deemed “Direct Enabled by Kno2,” by using publicly available and secure APIs for smart devices. This functionality enables healthcare providers to capture, exchange and receive information and documentation according to healthcare standards via the MFP. Additionally, Kno2 functionality easily integrates with the Surescripts network, electronic medical record (EMR) and other document management systems to ensure all care partners stay connected. The platform also enables acute care settings to attest for meaningful use exchange requirements for stage 2.

“Even with the significant advances in EMR adoption, a tremendous amount of paper-based records are faxed or mailed when a patient is transferred from one healthcare facility to another,” says Sam Errigo, senior vice president, Business Intelligence Services, Konica Minolta Business Solutions U.S.A., Inc. “Through our partnership with Inofile, we can assist healthcare customers by providing an integrated solution that delivers digital patient information in an efficient and secure manner that complies with HIPAA and HITECH technology standards. This exciting new technology offers an end-to-end solution to easily capture a complete patient record and share that information across the continuum of care dramatically reducing the amount of paperwork when transferring records from one facility to another.”
