This Week in the Copier Industry 10 Years Ago (Second Week of July 2009)

Art Post ·
It was ten years ago this week for the Ricoh "cleansing". These times were the months after Ricoh had acquired Ikon. Many great long time Ricoh peeps lost their jobs and were replaced by many Ikon peeps. GMAN paints an accurate picture of the "cleansing" in the thread titled "Cleansing". That is below or you can read it here. It's still my belief that when Ricoh cut the deal for Ikon, one of the covenants of the deal was that many Ikon Execs had to stay on for x amount of time. Fifteen years ago, hmmm, I was 47 years old and was with Century for 5 years. That time was something special since it was what I call the digital age of copiers. There were still analog copiers to be upgraded and the we attacked new business was to educate the client on how much that fax and printer cost per page was. Faxing was still big and most fax machines had a cost of 3 cents per page or higher. For companies that were receiving a couple of thousand pages a month the cost...

This Week in the Copier Industry 5 Years Ago (Third Week of July 2014)

Art Post ·
Just a thought for everyone today. Today marks the last week of the month. I'm had sitting on some 25 plus opportunities and for many reasons (not losing) most have moved to August and September. I'm still short to get to my quota, but I look at this like this. I still have 25% of the month left, and when I don't see the movement then it's time to do some additional prospecting. Thus an old dog like me will be knocking on doors in between two appointments tomorrow. BTW, it's suppose to be...

Thursday had me in the field with 2 appointments and ten or so planned stop ins and cold calls. I also mentioned that I would be on the lookout for other opportunities for prospects. Many times reps will ask, "where are the prospects?". Ah, grasshopper the prospects are all around you. All you have to do is use your eyes. Many of you know that I sell my fair share of wide format, and with wide format prospecting all you have to do is use your eyes for prospects. When you're out driving,...

In yesterdays post This Week in the Copier Industry 5 years Ago I wrote about the end of the month for me along with still have 25% of the month left. Well, tonight there's still 20% of the month left. I had two appointments, both where buying decisions will be made for August. Thus they count as two added opportunities. The rest of the day was spend with pre-planned stop ins, along with anything else that looked interesting. I had ten on the list, made all then and added two accounts that...

Ty @Kimberly trying to get it done! Our Governor is a real stinker. He lives about 5 miles from me in a huge mansion on the Shrewsbury River. On Saturday there was a car parade that drove past his house with horns, signs and they were all going 5 miles an hour. He still didn't get the message

A quick update on New Jersey for everyone. We're pretty much still locked down. Not much has changed in the last two weeks, although the Governor is giving us back some small freedoms from time to time. Today he announced the horse racing can resume in New Jersey by next week, although none of the grandstands will be open. I'm seeing this as a Governor that is desperate for tax revenue and placing wagers on the ponies and sports betting will generate some additional cash. Yesterday we were...

All of then are solid leads since they are for colleges, universities, non-profits, municipalities, State agencies, county agencies and board of educations. Just about three months we started posting leads for IT services on our forums. As more dealers are adding IT services to their stack we hope to provide additional value to them with these leads from across the United States.

One week from today New Jersey will begin Phase 2 of re-opening. Phase 2 will be a 2-4 week process. Out door dining, out door drinking (can you believe that) and non-essential business can now have people (limited) in their stores. No word on in-door dining, gyms, salons, barbers another other personal type services. Can't imagine eating out side and you're suppose to wear a mask when you're not eating. Well another blog I did't think I was going to write this evening. Late in day I was able to catch a news interview with our Governor. This is the same Governor that shut down indoor dining the day before it was scheduled to open yesterday. He also based the decision on activities from the last weekend where many bars were packed and peeps...

Geesh eighty work days now since I've been optioned to working from home. In eight days we'll hit the four month mark of work days. A third of the year spent working from the home office. Guess I'll need to ask my accountant about this one for 2020 tax time. One of my favorite sales expressions is "another day another dollar", in New Jersey another day means a new executive order from our Governor. Today good ole Murphy signed an executive order that a mask is required outdoors now.

5 Ways to Reduce Damp Paper in your Plotter

Art Post ·
Plotters and Wide Format Printers With summer brings the awful heat and humidity to New Jersey along with damp paper issues for plotters. Damp paper will cause print and copy quality issues because the toner and or ink doesn’t adhere to damp paper well. One of the ways to tell if the paper is damp is that the print of copy looks muddled or not a fully formed image. Our technicians refer to the issue as “blotching of the image”. Extreme high and low humidity can cause print & copy quality...
