Greg; Great stuff, it seems in my market area that Canon also counting the 11 x 17 as one click. However when you get right down to it, 10,000 11 x 17 @ .0055 comes out to $55.00, half is $27.50. If the sale is hinging on $27.50 a month (equates to $990 over three year lease). There is alot you can do to close the deal in your favor! Usally the 11 x 17 clicks only come to the fore front in hgh volume situations. In my market, I have to compete with Canon/Danka. In an unamed accout, I have...

WEEKEND MFP INDUSTRY NOTES 8-5-07 The following is a quick review of copier/MFP industry news from industry publications. - The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that it is legal for manufacturers to create a mandatory minimum selling price for their product. The case was decided regarding a store that sold women’s clothing, that ran afoul of the clothing manufacturer’s rules. Unknown if any copier manufacturers will adopt this policy. - A group in Australia at Queensland University, is claiming that...

Well..... A) It depends on what they are charing for the overages, not making $25 in profit by getting 1,000 additional color clicks per month could represent a profit of $50 per month for every thousand pages times this by 10 new colors units per month, we then have $500 every month, second month is $1,000, third month is $1,500, fourth month is $2,000, by the end of the 12th month with selling 10 units per month and each one doing only 1,500 color pages a month would represent a profit of...

Did you see the Today show this AM. In Orlando by the airport regular was $5.39/gal. They tried to interview the owner and of course they were not around. Then they asked for the employee to call him on his cell. The response from the employee was the owner said to "Please leave his property." You talk about serious price gouging....moral of the story is always fill you car up BEFORE getting to the airport.

Everything said so far is true. I've always heard to look in your Owner's manual and use the octane rating listed there for your car. HOWEVER, in my wife's SUV's owner manual, it says to use 89 Octane gasoline. We did that for a while and then decided to try 87. It ran great with no pinging or hesitation and is still getting great mileage (for an SUV, 20MPG not so bad).

Recently Ricoh has greatly enhanced the scanning features. You can now set security rights for files. Such as Protection setting as "Read Only". I am not for sure that this "IS" the problem your experiencing but, this surely will help find this answer. Read the attached PDF. This was just release from Ricoh March 08. I hope this helps. Ths buying of dealers sets an aweful precedent for that dealers that do not get purchased. Think about trying to secure and account and the CEO, CFO or owner asks this question to the dealer sales person. How do I know that your company will not be bought out by or sold? I for one, would feel more comfortable dealing direct, knowing that my product will always be serviced no matter what happens.

Not to insult my Ricoh sales brethren but as a longtime ComDoc employee/owner the overwhelming majority of the people here look at this as a very, very positive thing. Things had not been so peachy since the Ikon aquisition with a general feeling of being the redheaded step child in regards to support (and possibly pricing) from Ricoh. Just the thought of not having to deal with the RMAP process gets me pretty excited. Only time will tell. I will say that it was amazing how little time it...

After Ricoh bought IKON, with the intent of strengthening Market Share and distribution by becoming a 'direct' operation, ComDoc knew that Ricoh would never buy them. Moreover, as the ComDoc employee / owner stated above, they were no longer getting the same support from Ricoh after they bought IKON. ComDoc was then prime for purchase by Global and Ricoh loses probably close to $50M in revenue. I would think Ricoh must now focus even more attention on the IKON acquisition to make it somewhat...

Thanks for all of your questions and comments! To answer the first question by @AOSGROUP, we've had some success in our local area of Toronto, Canada. The transactions were completed manually before launching the marketplace. The current version of the marketplace was only launched this past January, so you guys are the early adopters. @Kitz: Dealer support is also a great question. Currently we approach this on a case-by-case basis. New transfers would go to an affiliated partner in the geographical territory that is qualified to service that equipment. Ultimately, we are building a network of independent dealers not unlike what the direct channel already has access to. This way, independent dealers can leverage the network for new contracts as well, such as when a sale is made to a head office that includes installations...

If you were unsuccessful where you are, but are unhappy with the company or the product, then moving should not be a problem. But if you were successful, and happy, and only the money was the inducement to move, then I suggest you have a good chat to your current dealer/manager before jumping ship, as "the grass is never greener" in most case. And if that turns out to be the case, then you will very quickly become dissatisfied and move on once again which could easily become the descent into...

Art, it's a part of the industry that I doubt you will get rid of. I would like to add my own "observation". I don't think that 99.9% of dealers do a good deal. If 99.9% was the case these instances would not even be noticed because they would be unheard of. I think the reality is that around 60-70% of dealers are OK. Another point is that the leasing companies do not give a damn about the state of the copier at the end of a lease. As long as the customer has made all the payments they're...

Sorry Grant but I have to call you out.It is a big mistake for salespeople to assume that what is true in their case, is true across the board. It causes the salesrep to make mistakes in judgement and may cause them to unintentionally misinform their prospect. Anything that isn't required by law is negotiable and therefore will vary from lease company to lease company and dealer to dealer. So two dealers using the same lease company may have negotiated different terms.

Re: Copier Scams Part Deux "Dude Where's my Copier"?

Even if the contract with the supplying dealer specifically has a clause that says the dealer will NOT buy the kit back, the lease co don't want it. I have never heard of a leasing company actually asking for the kit back at the end of a lease, they aren't interested. It's not part of their business plan. What is required as a condition on every lease is that the lessee is responsible for returning the equipment to a destination of the lease co's choice. If it does come to that it will go to...

Re: Copier Scams Part Deux "Dude Where's my Copier"?

That's not really the point I was trying to make. The point is that a salesrep shouldn't assume anything as fact because the facts vary from dealer to dealer and lease to lease. That having been said, you are missing a big part of the lease equation and that is the "alternative forms of revenue" that comes at the end of the lease. Anytime a lease is ended effectively, the lease company loses the chance of an automatic renewal (evergreen clause), in some cases they lose the chance to sell the...

Re: Copier Scams Part Deux "Dude Where's my Copier"?

It's easy to work out where the lease co's make their money. Every time a deal is upgraded early the early settlement discount is a paltry sum (3%). The effective interest rates are therefore huge. This settlement is then more often added to a new lease and interested lumped on top of that. There's no factoring in of a residual kit value for the lease companies, too little money for too much effort and management. That's why they don't handle the kit and insist the customer or dealer does...

Re: Copier Scams Part Deux "Dude Where's my Copier"?

Again, you are stating as fact things that are only true for you or possibly only true in the UK. Over here, I haven't seen an early settlement discount in years. Many companies actually have a pre-payment penalty. The settlement added to the new lease that you speak of is only a benefit to the lease company when the new deal goes to the incumbent. And if there is no residual, why isn't the equipment free to the dealer at the back end? The price to the dealer whether contracted in advance or...

" Many companies actually have a pre-payment penalty". Any clause which is an attempt to penalise a party if they try and terminate a contract early is illegal in the UK. Here's a reference to "Penal Damages" on Wikipedia that refers to US law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penal_damages Most of the people I know who work in the copier industry are of the belief that these clauses are legal and enforceable. I'm not sure if that has an equivalent in the UK. here we have the Consumer Credit Act. However, it only applies to consumers. Business to business isn't covered (except in a small number of cases).
