Xerox is at it again, pushing the fact that their machines only click once for 11 x 17. On a color system the savings can be huge. I plan to try and explain to the customer that it is just common sense that copying/printing something that is twice as big is going to cost twice as much. And to explain what happens when you pay less than you should for service/supplies.

Can anyone help me squash this tactic or share any successes they've had overcoming this thorn in the side?

To the best of my knowledge all machines can be set to do 1 click 11x17. But don't let your service manager hear this. The real question is what is the cost they will be paying. Does it includes toners or not. Do they have a set minimium volume that they would not achieved. I also run into this with Ikon. They do have a way of setting up high minimium monthly volumes that the customer will likely never hit. Other than that, all I can said is good luck.
We did get the deal. Merlin, you are right. It goes back to this just being a tactic used to lock out the competition. When we asked questions about how often they do this, etc... it wasn't really an issue at all. We just minimized it. I understand that our machines are capable of clicking once for 11 x 17, but that's not really what we want. Also, we can point out that in order for you to receive the proper preventative maintenance we need to know exactly what the quantity of prints are and if we are counting 11 x 17 as 1 it's not truly accurate. Xerox gets around this by not scheduling any preventative maintenance on their machines...maybe that is one of the reasons why their service is sometimes lower, they aren't providing the same type of maintenance.
