I have this one pain in my a$$ used copier guy basically out of the back of his truck who sells only used Xerox and makes so many bogus claims on his website it is unreal.

Things like they upgrade the hardware inside to make the machine run longer with less service calls, all machines have 2 months of usage on them or less, used machines that will last longer than new machines, explains to all customers that everyone else raises their service rates and he does not etc etc.

His claim for usage less than 2 months is taking the duty cycle at 200,000 pages and telling the customer that since it has 200,000 on it, it is less than 2 months old.

I have seen several customers lately falling for all this crap. He even writes a "book" called the copier industry's dirty little secrets.

What would you guys do? I just lost a deal this week to him and am still fighting to get it back after exposing the lies on his website and his claims. You would think he is running a 100 million dollar company and has offices all over the country, yet he is in a van slinging 5 - 7 year old machines. I'd be happy to share his website with anyone to take a look.

Pond scum customers do business with pond scum dealers. We have a few used copier dealers in our town and they always fail to deliver on service. After coming to us for help, they usually end up upgrading with the next cheapest vendor they can find.

At the end of the day, an unauthorized dealer cannot guarantee they can get the parts for a customer when they need it.

Sometimes you just need to walk away.

I would pull a credit check on his company, and if the findings are bad would then tell the potential buyer to do the same, or somehow get them a copy of it.

In addition, I would need to sell the heck out of the value that a real dealer brings to the table.  Maybe ask the client if they would buy their next car from craigs list.

Czech, I remember when if a customer was upset with their partner they would come back and want to find the best they could. Not so much anymore it seems.

I heard someone say recently that you could probably have the absolute worst service of any provider in your market and you would probably still keep 90% of your customer base. Don't know how true that would be but it is an interesting thought the way customers do things these days. Nothing really surprises me anymore.
