Is there anyway to upgrade the memory that is dedicated to the fax option on the all-in-one module for the 2018d? Guess I was stupid for not asking the customer how many pages they will be faxing out at one time. A mortgage company sending loan docs of 50 sheets of legal paper at one time. Most times the fax will run out of memory before the fax is stored, but when it does load all the faxes, it will take about 2 hours to send the docs from memory. Can you dedicate part of the 192mb from the MFP for fax only?

A Tech Instructor at Ricoh told me that memory cannot be upgraded on the 2018d with the all-in-one print/scan/fax option. The system comes with 192mb RAM and the fax option has 160 pages of fax memory. However, if customer is sending out 50 pages of loan docs using legal paper, and has more than 25% coverage, the memory cannot hold the load. And there is no way to partition the memory so only the fax can use more of the 192mb. My only option was to propose a 4410L with Feature Expander as an addition to the lease. I don't know if they will bite. The all-in-one option is great, as long as the customer is not a mortgage firm or one who faxes more than 10 sheets at a time. Chalk it up to not doing my homework in the pre-qualifying stage. If you don't get all the facts up front, it will come back to bite you later.
The owner of the mortgage company called the boss, who told her he had a 3900nf with a 4mb card that we took in on trade, and if she wanted that, she could pay him $100 for any parts that would go into it. Now she has a fax for the documents, and will use the 2018d for her prints & copies. We'll try to upgrade her in a couple of years, once her business is established and we won't have to use NEW business rates. At least the issue is solved.
