University of Wollongong - Managing Network Printing with Ricoh's Software Solutions

The University of Wollongong (UOW) has had more than 100 Ricoh multi-functional devices (MFDs) in use since February 2002. Thanks to Ricoh’s advanced software solutions, approximately 85 of these are now monitored by Ricoh’s SmartNetMonitor software.

SmartNetMonitor makes managing networked peripheral devices easy and efficient. Administrators get the power they need to operate and manage peripherals on every level, ranging from automatic configuration to supplies management.

Bill Moody, UOW’s Print and Distribution Services General Manager comments, “Since introducing Ricoh’s SmartNetMonitor software, the benefits felt by the University have been wide ranging. Improved service response times mean staff and students suffer less disruption. Individual departments are also more satisfied with the improved bill-tracking capabilities, which has meant that a greater level of department accountability has been implemented. As a whole, the University has seen a substantial reduction in service and printing costs and has been able to enforce more effective consumables management.”

Prior to Ricoh’s involvement, the University was using analogue equipment and once a month had to call out a technician to check each and every machine in all departments. The service call outs were frequent and costly. Now, the University employs a Valet who uses the Ricoh software to monitor the devices across all campuses and is notified of which require servicing.

In addition, UOW installed ScanRouter on some of its equipment to enable the storage of student records. The University has over 750,000 student records, which they are progressively scanning in and then transporting to electronic storage. As well as simplifying the storage process, this software frees up physical space previously required for hardcopy storage.
