Twain scanning and RDC

Interesting scenario.
They could "scan to email" thru the VPN.

Yes, they could scan to email or even to folder. But, they need to use twain scanning in order to pull the document into the application.

By the way, has anyone been successful installing Twain scanning on the new 1515? This is not the product they will be using, but I was attempting to configure this so that I could test it on my personal VPN and had no luck. I've set up twain scanning in the past without problem, but for some reason I've had no luck with the 1515. "cannot find scanner" error. I've installed through usb but don't think that should be an obstacle. There is no parallel and I didn't have the patience to scrap everything and install the system on the network.

Any help appreciated.

whats wrong with twain scanning? Other than having to operate it from a workstation.

Other than more correctly it is TWAIN scanning, if youre going to send it to someone, it will be sent as an e-mail attachemtnt anyway so, whats wrong with TWAIN scanning?

I have one 1515mfp set up with TWAIN scanning. Not sure how many we have in the field..I would suspect that the mfp connected rate is very low

The 1515 has a USB port, this is must be shared on the network through another computer. I would suggest something that has a network card and can be seen directly on the network. If you can print over the WAN, you can scan over the WAN. And I would agree with Jomama, Their software must be able to monitor a folder locally, if not, upgrade software.

There is nothing wrong with Twain scanning or "more correctly TWAIN scanning". This prospect MUST USE TWAIN SCANNING.

It is not going to be sent to anyone, so it doesn't need to me an attachment or go into a folder.

It will go into an application. They will click on something in the application (such as aquire image) and the program will pull from the mfp feeder in real time.

The 1515 does have a USB port. However, my experience has been that scanning can only be done through 10/100 Base TX, IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN, or IEEE 1394. Scanning through USB is not supported.

When the 1515 is installed on the network with 10/100 Base TX (standard cat5 cable), the scan driver looks out over the network and finds the scanner and pulls from it.

Now, the only obstacle is whether or not Remote Desktop Connection will allow this to be done through the VPN.

YES...If you can print over the WAN, you can TWAIN scan over the WAN.
