The whole coated stock thing has gotten crazy. When they were introduced we were told the 24/32's would do coated stock. It was emphisized in fact! Now we find out that Ricoh Japan supports it for coated, but Ricoh USA does not! Are they going to pull the rug out from under us with the 7000's too??

There is no reference to Gloss stock for the CL 5000, the tech support manual states that "coated" is not recommended.

Gloss stock is recommended for the CL3000 (Panasonic Printer)
Coated paper - Paper with a surface coating imparting a smooth finish. Coated paper finishes have a higher opacity and better ink holdout than uncoated papers.

Gloss - A paper's shine or luster which reflects angular light

IP Paper Corp
An exceptionally balanced #2 freesheet possessing outstanding qualities in all the key paper attributes -- brightness, shade, and gloss -- for the utmost performance and cost. The smooth surface creates vivid definition, image, and text uniformity resulting in a more refined overall appearance. Savvy is available in four weights and two finishes. Savvy is available on a quick turnaround basis for standard and non-standard roll sizes through the WebExpress ® Overnight and WebExpress Custom ® programs.

As the leading #3 grade, Influence provides an excellent option for all types of upscale end uses. With weights from 40 lb. to 100 lb., Influence extends the possibilities for coated freesheet applications. For heavy basis weights, Influence's unique crossover value becomes truly apparent, delivering the printability and appearance expected of a #2 grade paper. At the light basis weight end, Influence is the perfect choice for lightweight catalog and magazine applications that require prime print gloss and smoothness. The consistent quality and number of choices throughout Influence's weight range is testimony to International Paper's commitment to all basis weights in the #3 category.

I am not recommending these papers, just trying to inform that coated stock along with gloss stock is very vague. There are probably thousands of variations when it comes to these stocks.
