MAHWAH, N.J., October 11, 2010 – Sharp Imaging and Information Company of America (SIICA), a division of Sharp Electronics Corporation, launched the new MX-B402 monochrome workgroup multifunction product (MFP), enhancing the company’s award-winning Frontier Series with a more cost-effective replacement for its MX-B401. The MX-B402 has lower acquisition costs, double the toner capacity of the MX-B401 and blends more efficient, sustainable supplies with Sharp’s leading Frontier Series architecture. With a nearly 25 percent lower cost per copy (CPC), this multitasking MFP prints and copies at speeds of up to 40 black-and-white pages per minute.

The MX-B402 provides crisp document output to workgroups with ease and efficiency. This true multi-tasking, multi-function printer packs in the power, performance and functionality expected from Sharp. It incorporates a large 7-inch wide-screen color touch-panel that simplifies operation via an intuitive user interface to stay ahead of today’s fast-paced office document distribution needs. Engineered to help reduce operating costs and downtime, the MX-B402 is simple to set up, monitor and manage remotely, can expand modularly and offers the award-winning Sharp OSA® platform as well as the optional industry-leading Sharp security suite to help protect data and control access.

“In today’s economy, companies need to drive down printing and copying costs while increasing productivity and minimizing the environmental footprint,” said Gary Bailer, associate director, product management, A4 Multifunction Printers, SIICA. “The MX-B402 is an ideal choice for dealers when implementing a MPS strategy, consolidating multiple single-function devices, or when upgrading or replacing competitors’ aging ledger-based MFPs. User workgroups can truly multi-task between print, copy, scan and fax functionality while administrators and help-desk professionals can provide remote support as needed from a LAN-connected workstation. All together, this is an ideal MFP for businesses who need to step up efficiency and productivity.”

Sustainable Supplies and Systems
The MX-B402 helps chop waste by-products with its new tool-free developer system that was designed to be refilled instead of discarded or recycled. Similar to the systems used in Sharp’s award-winning A3 monochrome MFPs, the MX-B402 further reduces waste by-product by utilizing a long-life drum cartridge and is supported by Sharp’s Toner Recycling Program. The MX-B402 complies with the ENERGY STAR® program, RoHS, Blue Angel and other notable environmentally conscious programs.

Remote Access Capabilities
As with other Frontier models, the MX-B402 has Sharp’s newest developments in device management, with Remote Front Panel capability that provides the IT administrator or helpdesk professional with the ability to see exactly what the end-user is seeing. They can remotely change settings, show the user how to perform a function, or diagnose and often rectify problems without deploying a technician to the device. This dramatically reduces unit downtime and support costs.

Customizable Business Solutions with Sharp OSA Technology
The MX-B402 offers Sharp’s third-generation, award-winning OSA platform that enables users to access network applications, helping reduce redundancy and streamline workflow. Sharp’s OSA technology transforms the MX-B402 into a gateway for document-based business communications by integrating the devices with network-based applications. This technology enables dealers and developers to create fully networked and customized document solutions to meet virtually any business need. With Sharp OSA technology, businesses can securely connect devices with a wide range of enterprise applications, including document management applications, reporting functions and internally developed programs.

Network Security
The MX-B402 offers Sharp’s latest award-winning, multi-level document and network security suite, which assures customers that corporate information is secure. The new model conforms to IEEE-2600™-2800 security standard for MFP devices and meets the requirements set forth in IPv6. Sharp also offers an optional data security kit that encrypts document data using AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) methodology. This same kit also erases temporary memory on the hard drive by overwriting the encrypted data up to seven times. The units also offer several layers of added security such as IP/MAC address filtering, SSL Encryption, and IPsec (IP Security) protection. They also offer local and network user authentication to ensure only authorized access to the devices.

Space Saving Design
With a sleek lines and a brilliant color display, the exterior of the MX-B402 blends into virtually any office setting. Like other models in the Frontier Series, the MX-B402 features a space-saving and “wingless” inner staple finisher that keeps the profile compact, creating a slim footprint and enabling it to fit in to spaces typical A3-sized MFPs cannot. Additionally, the finisher provides exceptional productivity by automating time-consuming tasks such as stapling, sorting and offset stacking.

Sharp Best of Breed Engineering for Superior Products
All of the models in Sharp’s new Frontier line are the result of Sharp’s unique approach to designing and building office products, thinking and acting differently from any other vendor. The company employs a global product development process in which management, business development, R&D, product development, marketing, manufacturing, training and customer service teams all work collaboratively during each stage of the product development process. This gives Sharp a 360-degree view of the MFP market, allowing the company to form a common platform strategy in which the core components of its product line are designed, developed and manufactured together. Components, software and processes are engineered to be shared across engine platforms, making Sharp’s products “look and act” similarly across virtually all segments of the market. The culmination of this approach is a line of award-winning products universally praised for exceptional reliability and superior performance.
