Small, fast and powerful: new breed of compact printer uses MFP technology for superior performance and lower cost per page

London, 7 July 2010 - Sharp has announced a new highly-specified single function colour printer, the MX-C380P which, for the first time, features the architecture and print engine of the company’s award-winning A4 Colour MFP range.
As well as being a very capable single function printer, the design initiative means that the supplies, paper drawers and finishing options can be shared with other Sharp machines, leading to less inventory and reduced total cost of ownership.
Because the MX-C380P uses the same engine as Sharp’s A4 MFPs, customers who don’t need scanning and copying capabilities, will still be able to benefit from the same powerful controller, output quality, paper handling, connectivity and security features, for a fraction of the cost.
This, plus a range of value-added features, makes the MX-C380P very attractive to all workgroups, especially if they already have one or more Sharp MFPs in the building.
“This printer can be installed in almost any work environment seamlessly and will provide connectivity, remote management and security options that are comparable to full-featured MFPs,” said Marc Brion, Product Marketing Manager for Sharp Electronics UK. “The result is decreased downtime and lower running costs, with the added benefit of an efficient way to monitor usage.”

Network security
Unusually for printers of this price bracket, great attention has been paid to network and data security. Sophisticated filtering and encryption comes as standard, and a Confidential Print function protects sensitive information by requiring the user to enter a PIN code at the front panel display in order to authorise printing. A Data Security Kit, which adds encryption and data erase capability, is also available as an option.

Simplified workflow
The MX-C380P features Sharp’s “Direct Print” function, which allows users to access and print documents on a server directly from the printer. They can also access documents online that might be stored on an FTP server, USB drive, or stored on the printer’s hard disk drive for faster recall.
The MX-C380P can print up to 38 pages per minute and is equipped with a high speed controller, a 4.3 inch Q-VGA colour display, 1200 x 1200 dpi print resolution, and an 80 GB hard drive. A space-saving Inner Finisher can also be added, which automatically sorts, staples and stacks documents (offset, for extra convenience) without the need for a bulky add-on device.

Easy device management
Although ideal for small- to medium-sized businesses, the MX-C380P is just as likely to be adopted as a small departmental printer, thanks to powerful tools such as Sharp’s Printer Administration Utility and Printer Status Monitor, which let IT staff monitor, manage and configure the printer – and check its current operating status – without leaving their desks.
In addition, a Remote Front Panel feature lets IT staff remotely view and operate the front panel display from across the network, making it quicker and more convenient to offer support.
The MX-C380P also comes with Sharp OSA ® (Open Systems Architecture) as standard, for running third party software which automates manual office tasks such as storing and managing documents.

Supporting the environment
As well as offering low power consumption, Sharp’s latest printer also uses second-generation toner technology with less packaging and longer replacement intervals than conventional toners.
