I have now been contacted directly (Via my Blog) by the Chairman of the Sharp Dealer Advisory committee and indirectly by Sharp USA via the CDA (Independent Dealer Association). But I have NOT heard Sharp Japan state plainly that they are NOT going to sell their Copier division.

Read my The Connected Copier blog post and the comments, then decide for yourself if this is spin or not.

SharP USA & The Sharp Dealers want to put an end to the speculation that Sharp Japan is planning to sell their copier division.IMHO they are taking to the wrong people. If they want the speculation to end Sharp Japan can put and end to it all by simply and plainly stating that THEY HAVE NO INTENTION NOW OR IN THE FUTURE TO SELL THEIR COPIER DIVISION. I would post that on the front page of my blog.SO far all I hear from Sharp Japan is crickets....
Vince,

Your points are dead on. Unfortunately it is way beyond even Sharp Corp decision as to what will sell and what wont. If I was a bank that lent a company billions of dollars that I have a very low percentage of getting back (S&P Junk rating)I would be telling them what they needed to sell and what to keep.

So you see I believe Its not CDA's decision, its not dealer advisory presidents decision, its not Sharp USA decision, Heck I don't believe its even Sharp Corp Japans decision anymore. Its the bankers baby.
Vince

I read your blog today, sorry I missed it but what out of power until the 6th of this week. I find it fascinating that the Chairman of the Sharp Dealer Advisory made a comment, especially when he states that he never reads personal industry blogs.

Troy Olson is nothing more than a Dealer Owner, it's obivious that he is drinking the Sharp koolaid. He also believes everything he hears and nothing of what he reads.

The news for Sharp Corp is still bad especially with the recent statement that they may not be able to pull it off, and of course a day later Sharp re thought the statement blamed it on interpretation and back off somewhat of their statement.

I'm also agreeing with YODA, the banks are now in control to protect their investment.

Good Work

All of the Sharp doubters need to read this report from computerworld:

IDG News Service - Intel is in final negotiations to invest up to $500 million in struggling Sharp of Japan, the Kyodo News agency reported Tuesday.

Japan's largest news agency said the companies were discussing an investment of between 30 billion and 40 billion yen. It reported Sharp is also negotiating with Qualcomm, the U.S. maker of chips and components for mobile devices.

Sharp, in the midst of a restructuring and facing $5.6 billion in losses this fiscal year, warned earlier this month that it may not survive if it can't turn around its business or secure outside investment. While the company has massive cash flow problems and has been assigned junk status by rating agencies, it still possesses cutting-edge LCD technologies and some of the largest display factories in the world.

The Osaka-based company is in ongoing negotiations with Foxconn parent Hon Hai, after an investment deal agreed to earlier this year was shelved when Sharp's stock price plunged. While Sharp's negotiating position weakens along with its financial situation and sagging stock price, adding more bidders to the mix could motivate potential investors.

Sharp is suffering from investing too much on large-screen LCD panels for TVs, and is rushing to switch over to making screens for the booming tablet and smartphone market. The company also makes its own phones and tablets, which it sells mainly in Japan, and a wide range of consumer electronics and appliances.

The company has begun mass producing small screens for mobile devices using its IGZO technology, which uses far less power than existing technologies. Named after the indium gallium zinc oxide semiconductor on which they are based, the screens will be used in several upcoming Sharp devices, and the company has said it expects them to become a core product.

Officials at Sharp were not available for comment late Tuesday in Japan. The latest report from Kyodo, however, comes two months after Sharp denied earlier articles that it was in talks with Intel, saying flatly "there is no truth to the reports."

"It is pure speculation, we don't comment on rumors," said Chuck Mulloy, an Intel spokesman.

Japanese media have also linked Sharp to deep-pocketed Apple, for which it is a major supplier of displays.

for all the nayers did you see this "Intel is in final negotiations to invest up to $500 million in struggling Sharp of Japan, the Kyodo News agency reported Tuesday".

and now how about this "The latest report from Kyodo, however, comes two months after Sharp denied earlier articles that it was in talks with Intel, saying flatly "there is no truth to the reports."
