SCANSOFT TO BUNDLE CAPTIVA'S ISIS SCANNER DRIVERS
Captiva to Provide OmniPage and PaperPort Users Seamless Access to Production-Level Scanners

SAN DIEGO, December 2, 2003 -- Captiva Software Corporation (NASDAQ: CPTV), a leading provider of input management solutions, today announced that ScanSoft, Inc., a leading supplier of speech and imaging solutions, will bundle Captiva's ISIS® scanner drivers with its OmniPage and PaperPort family of document imaging products, empowering their interface with more powerful, production-level scanning devices. The initial payment on the five-year licensing contract was $220,000.
Captiva's Image and Scanner Interface Specification (ISIS) is the industry standard, enterprise-level interface that enables communication between scanners and applications, and supports the entire feature set of leading digital scanners. Under this new agreement, ISIS drivers will be included with future versions of ScanSoft's OmniPage Pro, which enables image scanning and editing, and PaperPort, which manages scanned documents. With ISIS embedded in these products, users will have seamless access to a universe of production-level scanners for optimized document capture and processing.

"Competitive businesses are rapidly moving toward the use of digital documents and automated content management systems to drive their business processes. To stay competitive, organizations must capture the content that feeds those systems with more speed, accuracy and flexibility than ever before-which means more powerful scanners with more powerful drivers," said Jim Vickers, Captiva's Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager of Pixel Translations, a division of Captiva. "By bundling ISIS with its OmnniPage and PaperPort products, ScanSoft is offering its customers a proven path to integrating with robust, best practice document capture hardware products. The manufacturers of these products themselves recommend and bundle ISIS drivers."

Created in 1990, ISIS is a flexible, modular standard for acquiring, converting, viewing, printing and storing scanned document images. ISIS-based toolkits provide users the most efficient means possible for adding these imaging functions to applications and are available for use in virtually every instance where a commercial enterprise system communicates with a scanner, making ISIS the de facto industry standard. ISIS has garnered numerous industry accolades and is widely credited with enabling the document imaging and e-content market to prosper.
