I can only speak for Canada but I am told that Samsung Canada does not plan to exit the MFP business for another two years.  "To ensure a smooth transition" from Samsung to HP.

Samsung will continue to market the Samsung brand line and HP will market a relabelled Samsung product with a different package of software included.

Think of it like Ricoh and Lanier.

Samsung Canada is offering a 30 cpm A3 colour copier with Dual head scanner for $1,995.00 dealer cost.

HP has not started to approach Samsung dealers yet but dealers are free to do what they want.

Samsung wanted to exit the market because they could not make the profit margins that they wanted and were concerned that they could not rise above being a 3rd Tier vendor to most copier dealers.

At a $1B purchase price HP actually thinks they are buying the Samsung printer business and assets at below market value.

I do not know but I am sure that HP had an army of accountants and lawyers reviewing the deal.  Plus like buying a copier dealer, Samsung would have developed a significant recurring revenue base for parts & consumables.  I was told that a couple of Samsung printer factories were part of the deal.

I was hoping that with Samsung exiting the business and HP buying the business we would be -1 +1 = 0 new A3 competitors.  Now it looks like 1 + 1 = 2 A3 competitors for the next two years.

Do not be surprised if Samsung starts throwing in their new  S8 Smart phone (MSRP $1,000)  to help close deals and maybe differentiate themselves from HP.

@SalesServiceGuy at the Samsung National Dealer Meeting.  There was a slide presented during the Samsung presentation portion detailing the timeline of when the merger is complete, when and how long they'd remain one company two brands and when they would finally go to one company one brand.  They didn't make mention of them shipping Samsungs branded as HP yet.  They said that the one company one brand would take effect in 2019 and thats when the branding would change.  Until then "business as usual"........
