Ricoh Files Patent Infringement Lawsuit Against Katun Corporation and General Plastics

West Caldwell, NJ, May 30, 2003 -- Ricoh Corporation and Ricoh Electronics, Inc., announced today that they and their parent company, Ricoh Company Ltd., have filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Katun Corporation, its parent corporation PNA Holdings, LLC, and General Plastics Industrial Company, Ltd. for infringing several Ricoh patents as well as for trademarks infringement and unfair competition.

In the complaint, filed in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey on May 30, 2003, Ricoh alleges that Katun's sale of toner and toner bottles, especially designed for use in Ricoh copiers, printers and multifunction devices, infringe upon valid Ricoh Company patents exclusively licensed to Ricoh Corporation. The complaint further alleges that infringing toner bottles used by Katun are acquired from General Plastics Industrial Company, Ltd.

In addition the complaint alleges that Katun has infringed Ricoh trademarks and engaged in unfair competition in its labeling and distribution of Katun's toner for Ricoh machines. Ricoh Corporation and Ricoh Company, Ltd., seek to enjoin both Katun's and General Plastic's current and future infringement, the trademark infringement and unfair competition and seek to recover compensatory and enhanced damages as well as interest, costs and fees.
