Lab Tests Prove CL4000DN is a Reliable, Cost Effective Color Solution
West Caldwell, NJ, October 19, 2005 – Ricoh Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, today announced that the Aficio® CL4000DN color printer has received “excellent” reviews from Buyers Laboratory, Inc. (BLI), the leading independent office products test lab and business consumer advocate. According to BLI’s lab test report, the CL4000DN network laser printer demonstrated flawless reliability performance, putting it at the forefront of the document management competitive landscape.
During a two-month evaluation process, BLI ran 75,000 impressions to make an assessment of the Aficio CL4000DN. All of these tests were completed without the need to make any service calls or deal with any paper jams. BLI also tested the performance for multiple device features on the Aficio CL4000DN. Of these features, feedback to workstations, ease of network set-up and compatibility of applications received “excellent” ratings - the highest achievable - while print quality and productivity, administrative utilities and print drivers were graded “very good.” Furthermore, BLI stated that throughout the evaluation, black output produced crisp, cleanly formed characters and color output of the unit remained consistent with the appearance of the print out, actually improving over the testing period.
According to BLI’s evaluation of the Aficio CL4000DN, it not only garnered a “very good” overall rating for its performance, but for its value as well. Testing proved that the Aficio CL4000DN had remarkable total cost of ownership with color cost per page 45.5 percent less than the average and black cost per page at 37.5 percent less - the lowest compared to all competitive printers tested by BLI to date. As for toner yield, the Aficio CL4000DN’s black and color toner cartridges received an “excellent” rating for having the highest yield compared to any other printer BLI has tested in this range.

The Aficio CL4000DN is a desktop printer that can fit virtually anywhere in an office. With print speeds as fast as 26 ppm for both monochrome and color and enhanced resolutions of up to 1200 dpi, this single-pass color laser printer is designed for ultimate productivity with high-quality printing capabilities. Standard features on the Aficio CL4000DN include automatic duplexing, a 650-sheet paper tray, 500-sheet output capacity and IPP support. In an effort to reduce network traffic, the Aficio CL4000DN offers PDF Direct Print, which enables a user to send PDF print jobs directly to the device from a connected personal computer without requiring access to Adobe® Acrobat® Reader. As for maintenance capabilities, the Aficio CL4000DN is equipped with administrative utilities such as SmartDeviceMonitor that allows IT as well as the general user to remotely manage network print devices. This feature is attractive to any organization looking to reduce maintenance time and costs as well as increase document workflow.
A scalable unit, the Aficio CL4000DN BLI tested was configured with the optional IS200e Image Scanner, which expands the functionality of the printer to include convenience copying and color and monochrome scanning. The addition of this scanner also allows for Scan-to-Email with LDAP support, Scan-to-Folder with SMB/FTB capability and Scan-to-Print and TWAIN scanning via USB and network connections.
