Ricoh chooses Cognos as global BI/CPM standard for company-wide solution

BURLINGTON, Mass., Oct. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Cognos (Nasdaq: COGN;
TSX: CSN), the world leader in business intelligence and corporate performance
management (CPM), today announced that Cognos K.K., its wholly owned Japanese
subsidiary, has entered into a global comprehensive agreement with Ricoh Co.,
Ltd. to support its introduction of a new group business management system.
Ricoh, a 69 year-old Japan-based company, is a diversified office
automation equipment and electronics provider with sales in excess of US$17
billion annually. In line with the agreement, Ricoh Group companies in 20
countries including Japan will roll out Cognos BI and CPM solutions as part of
'GB21,' its new group business management system.
Ricoh Group companies in Europe are introducing a range of Cognos
products, including Cognos PowerPlay(R), Cognos ReportNet, and Cognos
Planning, to visualize their business issues according to the CPM vision and
solution. In Japan, as part of its activities to promote management renewal,
Ricoh Group provides top and middle management members with operational
information visually, e.g., consolidated financial status.
The manufacturing companies within the group have also been promoting
structural reforms by visualizing information on inventory and order flow and
monitoring business processes from production through sales in Supply Chain
Management (SCM) systems. With these activities, the Ricoh Group aims to
increase transparency in its operational and business activities.
Ricoh has built GB21 to coordinate and align business reform activities
conducted by various bases and divisions and to make better use of information
globally. GB21, which incorporates Cognos ReportNet as a solution to integrate
reports and search information, visualizes operational and business conditions
applying financial and SCM indices. Cognos ReportNet will initially be used by
about 1,000 employees, and the number will be expanded to 5,000 in the future.
Ricoh plans to further promote visualization of business challenges, e.g.,
implementing a business dashboard, to facilitate operational reforms on a
global scale.
"We at Ricoh are united in promoting management reforms. Cognos is the
leading vendor of business intelligence and corporate performance management
solutions. We have a high opinion of its product functions based on the
experience of our affiliates in the U.S. and Europe using PowerPlay and
ReportNet. We have decided to introduce Cognos products as the standard BI/CPM
platform for a new company-wide system. We expect that it will increase
transparency in the business activities of the entire Ricoh Group and will
accelerate our management reforms," said Tsunetoshi Ogino, Deputy General
Manager, SCM System Center, Information Technology & Solution Division at
Ricoh.
"Cognos is very pleased to be chosen as the BI standard for Ricoh's GB21
initiative," said Dave Laverty, senior vice president of marketing. "By
ensuring everyone has a single, rich view of customer information, Cognos can
create an environment for true corporate performance management. Our ability
to offer total enterprise reporting coverage, mission critical performance and
full scalability has made it the BI solution of choice for industry leaders
like Ricoh."
