RICOH ANNOUNCES SIGNIFICANT ENHANCEMENTS TO DOCUMENTMALLTM

CHICAGO, May 10, 2005 — Ricoh Corporation, the leading provider of digital office equipment, introduced at a press conference today enhancements to DocumentMallTM, a Web-based solution that enables corporations to store, manage and share files through the Internet. The upgrades to this on-demand document management and collaboration software service enable DocumentMall to meet the needs of a wider range of customers, from the high-volume customer to the casual customer, regardless of company size.
Ricoh understands that time is of the essence in any office, especially in the world of the high-volume customer. As a result, it has integrated the Upload Agent, a high volume input solution that automates the process of getting documents into DocumentMall. The Upload Agent is a client application that accepts scanned documents and indexing data (XML metadata) from third-party capture solutions and delivers them via a secure HTTPS connection to a DocumentMall account. At the customer’s convenience, Upload Agent runs as a scheduled service so uploads can be processed during non-peak hours when network traffic is light. In addition, there are no limits on the file size when using DocumentMall’s Upload Agent, making it the solution of choice for customers processing large volumes of paper documents.

Ricoh is also pleased to announce that Upload Agent integrations are now available for InputAccel and InputAccel Express from Captiva Software Corporation, GobyCapture from DocuLex, and Ascent Capture from Kofax; all industry leading document and imaging capture solutions. The combination of DocumentMall and the Upload Agent with InputAccel or AscentCapture are ideal solutions for the conversion and storage of both active and back-filed documents for rapid access or disaster readiness. GobyCapture, in conjunction with a Ricoh Multifunction Product (MFP), offers an efficient and simple to use solution for customers processing moderate volumes of paper.

Knowing that it can often be a time-consuming task to identify the appropriate documents when performing a search on an Internet-based storage center, Ricoh has enhanced DocumentMall’s integrated Barcode Service with improvements to the usability of the user-interface and the incorporation of security upgrades via user access controls. These improvements will not only assist in the organization of documents, but also expedite the retrieval process.

For all customers, from small to medium businesses to enterprise workgroups, Ricoh has improved the performance of DocumentMall with upgrades to the software, including increased user-level security and infrastructure enhancements. Ricoh has also begun implementing BS7799 Part 2 (ISO 17799), a standard specification for an information security management system (ISMS). The most widely recognized security standard in the world, BS7799 provides Ricoh customers with the assurance and satisfaction of knowing that their information is protected using a comprehensive set of controls comprising best practices in information security.

Budgets can heavily influence purchasing decisions and businesses often end up with solutions that do not meet their exact needs. Based upon the total amount of storage used and contract term, the new DocumentMall pricing model reduces the overall cost of the service the more it is used within an organization. For example, a higher-volume customer can reduce annual costs by 65% compared with the previous pricing model. In addition, new monthly billing options are available for the higher-volume customer. Hence, with DocumentMall, businesses can obtain a high-quality, customized solution at an affordable price.

“Demonstrating our commitment to providing customers with superior document workflow solutions, DocumentMall offers many benefits that significantly improve our customer’s business processes by managing key document information throughout its lifecycle. The DocumentMall suite of products includes a wide range of offerings for electronic and image input, management and collaboration, and output and delivery. Further, with these enhancements, Ricoh is not only able to strengthen the breadth of DocumentMall’s offerings, but also ensure that it meets the needs of the user in a cost efficient manner,” said Hede Nonaka, vice president of marketing, Ricoh Corporation.
