RICOH AND DOCSTAR TEAM TO SUPPORT NEW JERSEY PUBLIC RECORDS SHARING EFFORTS

West Caldwell, N.J., November 17, 2008 – Ricoh Americas Corporation, a leading provider of digital office equipment and solutions, has partnered with docSTAR to develop a digital imaging and electronic document management solution (EDMS) to preserve government records and historical documents as well as improve citizen’s access to public records for the City of Camden, N.J. Designed to support the State of New Jersey Shared Services initiative to lower cost and improve the efficiency of providing government services, the imaging and EDMS will initially serve nine municipalities in the South New Jersey area.

“Governor Jon Corzine is a strong proponent of shared services. This solution will not only create operating efficiencies, emergency preparedness and cost-savings for our municipalities, but most importantly, it will provide increased responsiveness to citizens accessing essential public records through the Web. We’re hopeful that this program becomes a national model for meeting the challenge of managing local government records,” commented William Lutz, records manager for the City of Camden, N.J.

The Ricoh docSTAR solution will help municipalities reduce document storage cost and paper usage as well as automate paper processing and facilitate sharing of information between municipalities. In addition, the solution provides disaster protection for important historical records and the continuity of government services in the event of a system outage. The City of Camden solution will be featured at the 93rd Annual League of Municipalities Conference –
Ricoh Booth #2409 – docSTAR Booth #2113 – in Atlantic City, N.J. from Tuesday, November 18 through Friday, November 21, 2008.

The Ricoh-docSTAR-imaging and EDMS is a turnkey process that has been certified by the New Jersey Department of Archives and Records Management (DARM). Ricoh multifunctional products (MFPs) and docSTAR CP, with a simple “plug and play” addition to the MFP, are utilized by each municipality for scanning paper documents and exchanging information with the City of Camdens’s docSTAR SPX Enterprise document management solution. Ricoh’s Software as a Service (SaaS) solution, DocumentMall, integrates with the docSTAR SPX Enterprise solution providing “cloud” backup storage, disaster recovery and enables continuation of government (COG). The solution also links documents to the city's Geographic Information System (GIS) and integrates with the Electronic Postmark Service, which the Camden records infrastructure mandates to ensure authenticity and security of documents.

“We're excited to be working with Ricoh in delivering an online public records access vehicle for the citizens of Camden and other municipalities. This innovative solution will save time, money, offer faster access to records, and most importantly, reduce paper usage which supports the green initiatives of many citizens," stated Jeffrey Frankel, vice president, Business Development, docSTAR.
“The City of Camden accepted the challenge to lead New Jersey municipalities in becoming more efficient in public records management. As more municipalities agree to share the records hub, we will continue to provide support with Ricoh MFPs and DocumentMall cloud storage,” said Hede Nonaka, executive vice president, Ricoh Americas Corporation.
