Printing from Word Perfect

I believe there is a "tweek", I had a similar problem a few years ago. There is a setting somewhere is WP, have the customer or you call WP to find it.

Found the setting, it is somewhat cumbersome though! I did, however, convince him to switch and convert to MS Word. Makes my life easier

I had a Church a few years ago that used WP. They were only experiencing problems with the 551 & WP. After figuring out it was WP and not the 551, this was all the Senior Pastor needed to switch to Microsoft Word. He wanted Word for a long time, but all the ladies fought him. They haven't had a problem since they switched.

I had a problem with duplexing from WP on Monday with an install of a 1018D. I found I had to check collate in both WP and the 1018D Driver.

You'll notice with that method that when they are printing multiple copies, if you watch the printer spool, WP will send the entire document for each copy. IE: if you have a 3 page document that you are printing 50 times, it will send 150 pages to the printer. Printing out of word, it sends 3 pages to the printer and doesn't tie up your PC or hurt your network traffic.

I found with the Church, when they tried to print 750 Monthly Newsletters, it sent the job 750 times. This was 12 pages being put into a booklet mode and printed. The first time they did it it took about 7 hours. We figured out that you have to put the number of copies inside the properties box, not on the first print screen that pops up when you select print. If you do it on the first screen, the computer sends the job the number of times you selected. If you select the number of copies from inside the properties box under the setup tab, then the PC RIPs Once-Prints Many. I believe this is true for most programs. On small jobs with few pages, it doesn't matter if the PC RIPs the job a few times. However, it does matter if there are many pages and many sets need to be run.

This is true, however, there is also (in WP10) a coalate check box in the print properties within the WP program that needs to be unchecked and a profile setting that needs to be changed to get it to do it right. (This is about 3 menu levels deep in WP.) I finally found it by hunting around in the print option menus within WP. It does not always save the settings. I convinced the customer to change to MS word which he has and bought him a Word for Dummies book so he can learn it. What a mess! As for setting the number of prints, you can also do it from the front screen, you just need to make sure the coalate box is unchecked. Since this is a known issue (the coalate box) hopefully, in time Ricoh will do something to simplify this for the customers within their drivers.

An article on the front page of the September 2nd eWeek magazine talks about more PC makers trying to find alternatives to Microsoft desktop productivity suites. Hewlett-Packard and Dell have expanded their relationship with Corel Corp and are offering Wordperfect 10 and Quattro Pro 10 with some of their computer lines starting this month. Earlier this year, Sony agreed to ship Wordperfect on it's PCs as well.
According to the article, the retail version of WP is 40.00 cheaper that MS Works and 100.00 less than Ofice XP.
