I know that the hard drive is recommended for collate printing on the Savin CLP27dn. So, I wasn't surprised when I selected Collate in the driver and printed a PDF and it wasn't collated.

I selected collate in the driver and the application and then in the driver alone, then the application alone. No collate.

I was surprised when I printed from MSWord and it did collate. My question know is if I do add the hard drive to the CLP27dn will I then be able to collate when printing a PDF?

Selecting Collate within MS applications (for 5 copies let's say)actually sends the document to the printer 5 times and requests one copy of each, so it will collate on ANY printer.

Try this with a Powerpoint document (where the file sizes are larger). I've actually had people crash their print server by printing a 30MB powerpoint doc, asking for 100 copies and checking collate within powerpoint. Print file size was over 2GB.
I understand what you're saying. However, the application that I am printing from is not an MS application it's Acrobat.

I found that when I printed a multi-page pdf with the RPCS driver it did RIP the job 1 time for each copy as you said. However, with the PS driver it RIP'ed once and printed 1,1,2,2,3,3...etc.

Since this customer prints a lot of PDF files and would like to use the PS driver I was wondering if I added a HDD would it then collate from the PS driver. What I want to avoid is adding a HDD and finding out that it still will not collate with the PS driver.
