Hey all. I am one of the support reps from Ricoh for PPDM. The product is FABULOUS. The roll out has just started in the field, really, and we are learning the product. The only real problem we have been having is with the server. Those have been IIS issues, not PPDM issues. Also, watch for firewall conflicts. The product allows for BATES stamps, scan to almost anything, and 99% OCR. Once it is up, it appears highly stable. If it crashes, removal can be tricky, but we have a fix for that. Get your NFR copy up and check the help file. The Nuance folk have made the best Help file I have seen in 10 years.
About a year since posts on this thread. Is there much activity on this product?
We include initial connectivity for the MVP printing & scanning. We don't mention ppdm, however our plan is if customer requires OCR or other feature that ppdm provides wewillgive them the free lisc. And offer to install it and provide support on a billable basis.
Im curious to here what everyone else is doing.
My experience has been that setting up the server application so its available in the display of the MFP is a disaster. Also once its set up on the MFP its a very slow process to make selections and enter data on the mfp touchscreen. Very clunky at the mfp. I've given up on it and now just load the workstation software when the customer has a need. Its better to just set it up on a workstation and point the software to the customer's regular scan folder inbox. The desktop software is great.
I don't know what Ricoh's opinion would be on this (don't really care) but we accumulate licenses and then distribute them strategically. I sold a single license last week for $350 and charged an additional $150 for client PC install and limited training. Since we have no cost, my company counts it all as GP. I quoted a C300 and said we would include a PPDM license for free if they bought two C300's. I am able to provide a value-add at no cost to me. C300 doesn't come with PPDM but it can if you have one from some other sale. Like others have said, we stay away from the MFP installation.
By the way, to sell it I just direct them to our website to view either the 5 minute or the 48 minute video presentation. www.cbs-digital.com under the Professional Services Tab if you want to see how we have handled it.
I agree with fisher and old glory you got it going on, I'm gonna mention this to our people.

For DeanW, we're not seeing any additional support issues once we've installed on the client, we too are staying away from the server install and yes they lose some of the automated features however in the intial appt, I don't talk about them, I talk about every thing that can be done on the PC.
