On Demand Show in Phili 2009

I'm was thrilled that On Demand/AIIM show is back in Phili! It's always a pleasure to be in Phili in the spring.

I would have to concur with others that the show was much smaller than previous years, and I'm also thinking that attendance was down, way down. Of course the larger manufacturers had some decent traffic, however once you went around to the smaller vendors all I heard was how horrendous the traffic was. In years past, when traveling with colleagues I would lose site of them for hours at a time and would have to call them on the cell in order to find them. Not this time, aisles were free to walk about and you could see from one end to the other without the obstruction of people.

This was a response on a tech copier message board (copiertalk) that I hate to follow, however they pull my feeds off the blog, plus they hate copier/mfp salespeople:

I was at the show. I quickly exchanged my Kodak lanyard for one from KonicaMinolta.
I too found it smaller and less exciting compared to the last show in Philly where
I first saw the word "Bizhub" and thought it was stupid. The Pro 65HC is just a C-6501 that uses a brighter toner. Not yet available and with every possible option imaginable, I suppose it could top the $100,000.00 mark.
My dealership has sold more than it's share of C-6500s and C6501s and as the director of service, I wish I could get rid of every one of them. Below are the reasons.

1) Most are print for pay!
2) Most single click for 12x18
3) Most are at 60 to 100% coverage!
4) Most pay under $.05 per click!
5) They call for service daily!
6) I lose money on each and every click!!!!!!!!

The owner of my company told me "We are like an insurance company, We win some, we lose some!" he also said, "Negative cash flow is better than no cash flow!"

I say, if the deal is a loser for us we should walk away and let the other company lose revenue. I also believe that negative cash flow is OK for the Obama administration but not for my dealership! What say ye?????

Service techs have the best job in the world! It takes being a service manager to understand the latter!
Sound like to me that someones service manager needs to find another line of work. Just brighter toner?
We have quite a few of the 6500 and 6501's out there and we don't see them every day, 12 X 18 isn't a single click and they were designed for the print for pay industry and CRD's.
Perhaps he needs to train his techs better rather than gripe and complain online.
