Looking for another reason to move toward a paperless office? Here it is. A new survey by Software Advice reveals office workers in paper-based environments lose six or more hours per week searching for documents. Workers in digital offices, however, report virtually no lost time at all.

 

A caveat: The sample size for some parts of this survey is tiny. Software Advice said it talked to several hundred people for the survey. But in some cases it reports on commentary from only 48 people. Perhaps it could only find 48 people who say they primarily use paper documents instead of digital files.

According to the report, a combined 91 percent of digital office employees (there were 94 people in this segment of the survey) said digital management systems make their jobs "somewhat" or "significantly easier." Digital office workers also acknowledge that some forms of paper documents remain in the workflow, most notably faxes (35 percent), notes between co-workers (35 percent) and legal documents or contracts (29 percent).  read more here
