We are calling on a prospect that has Oce 7055 wide format copier. They want to move to copy/print/scan. We are going to propse 3406wd system but Oce is trying to convice them to go with the Color Wave 650. Does anyone have any info on this - as a color product is it laser or ink jet? How is the hardware cost going to stack up with the 3406wd?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

This is their color machine, it uses toner that is shaped in round balls or "pearls" as OCE calls them. I believe MSRP is $35K not sure, however the cost to maintain for a color print is very expensive (heard this, have never seen a quote).

After reading through the manual a bit, it seems like the toner is melted to a liquid state. Not sure, but they also speak about print heads.

Go here for the op manual and you'll probably be able to pick it apart.

We have one in our print shop. It is an amazing machine. It is amazing to watch color prints come out that fast with that quality.

It is not expensive to run. The service plan is similar to how xerox does the color cube. Its more based on coverage than anything so if all you do is spot color for markups it is economical.

All depends what the customer's needs are.

We have a print shop business in addition to our copier dealership. We use the colorwave for temporary signage for retail stores and for temporary outdoor banners. The machine will print on Tyvec and polipropoline which is waterproof and great for outdoors. Its cheap and fast compared to other color printers. The graphics image quality that comes out of it with the RIP is very impressive. The images hold up fairly well outdoors....about 6 months in the sun.

I've sold a lot of the Ricoh 3406 type machines. This Oce' is a completely different animal. It's in a whole nother league on every level including price. No comparrison in any way. If this is a large architect, print shop or big commercial construction company they may want the Oce'.

Keep in mind this Oce' costs nearly 3 times as much.

PS: We are a Ricoh and Oce' dealer. If there is any dig I can give you on Oce' other than their high cost it would be that they are not very user friendly. These machines are for the advanced user. They are built like tanks and will out-last anything ricoh has from a reliability standpoint.
