I have a cleint that is processing invoices and purhase orders through a program called Order Maker. When the invoice is finished is shows on the screen as a blank background with the data of the invoice in black, the customer then loads a single page form into thier printer and then print the PO or the invoice. The customer then faxes the documents to the end user.

Is there a way to merge the electronic data from Order Maker with an electronic form from the PC? From there we can LAN fax the invoices.

I have looked at FabSoft, however I am not sure if this is the right solution. Can anyone direct to me something that maybe simple solution. The customer prints anyhwere from 1500 to 2000 of these forms each month.

Thanx

Art,

First, you need to find out how the data handled in the Order Maker application. Can it be exported as a file (cvs, txt, etc)? Is it stored in a proprietary format that would have to be spooled and captured?

A few ideas.

If volume is projected to stay low and the client can export the data to a file, PrintShop Mail may be a simple solution. There would be a manual step, ie., relinking or refreshing the database every time they print, but it would do exactly what they want in streaming the form once from the PC. They also could print the output as a pdf and email them instead of faxing.

For more transactional VDP options (especially if the volume is projected to go up):

Prism's DocForm. I don't have personal experience with it, but my Konica solutions person (who is actually a fairly objective source) has good things to say about it.

Also, take a look at Objectif Lune's PlanetPress. The form is stored electronically on the printer's hard drive, and it will support data from many sources including AS400s. Might be more expensive than what you are looking for, but it has more robust capabilities including integrated email, fax and archiving. We have a couple of installations with this application, and Objectif Lune's support has been good.

He could send the print job to the LANFAX, but the job doesn't have the form included (it's a paper form).

He's looking for a solution to insert a digital form with the data from their program and fax that digital file out directly.
