MELVILLE, N.Y., Jan. 29, 2014 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Canon Solutions America, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Canon U.S.A., Inc., today announced that Microdynamics Group, a Naperville, Ill.-based transactional print and mail resource company, has installed its second OcÉ ColorStream® 3900 digital color printing system in just over a year.

Microdynamics was founded in 1974 by Chairman and CEO Thomas Harter, Sr., as a provider of computerized microfiche processing services. Since then, the company has evolved into one of the nation's fastest growing print service providers, delivering personalized, transactional printing, inserting, and mailing services to companies across a number of industries, including insurance, utilities, banking & financial services, and collections.

An early adopter of inkjet technology, Microdynamics enjoyed the competitive advantage inherent in a color printing solution. However, the quality of its chosen inkjet system never lived up to the marketing department's standards. That led Microdynamics to embark on a search for a digital color printing solution that would enable it to meet current customers' expectations and attract new business.

Expectations Exceeded

After carefully considering a number of digital printing solutions, Microdynamics selected the OcÉ ColorStream 3900, part of the OcÉ ColorStream 3000 Twin Series. Impressed by the near-offset quality, speed of operation, and quality control features, Microdynamics made the decision to purchase the digital color printing system right on the tradeshow floor at Graph Expo 2012. As a long-time customer of Canon Solutions America, Microdynamics also had first-hand knowledge of the stellar service and support that backs up every purchase – and that played a big role in the company's decision.

"Another company was more economical on the acquisition cost, but from a service perspective, they were pretty risky in North America," said Thomas Harter, Jr., President. "The quality and the speed of the OcÉ ColorStream 3900, along with the quality in both output and service quality we've experienced with Canon for over a decade, made the decision easy for us."

Canon Solutions America lived up to Harter's expectations, providing "phenomenal" assistance throughout installation and ramp-up at the company's Naperville production facility. Canon representatives and technicians ensured the new OcÉ ColorStream 3900 was integrated into Microdynamics' production workflow and running smoothly.

Immediately, Microdynamics reaped a rich return on its investment. "The Canon solution has increased our throughput four to five times with significantly better quality," said Harter. "Just the sheer volume in terms of how fast the machine can print and the ability to start and stop print jobs without having to change paper between print jobs has really increased our efficiency on the floor."

Encore Performance

Microdynamics was so impressed with the OcÉ ColorStream 3900, it purchased a second one – again right on the tradeshow floor – at PRINT 13 in Chicago this past September. The second system is being installed in the company's Milwaukee, Wis. Facility. Its addition to Microdynamics' arsenal of high-volume print engines makes the company a "100 percent Canon shop." Eventually, Harter hopes to make that a "100 percent ColorStream 3900 shop."

"Internally, we have a roadmap to get to a completely digital color platform over the next two to three years," said Harter. "Eventually, we plan to migrate off monochrome altogether and run completely on the OcÉ ColorStream 3000 series of full-color, high volume inkjet printing systems."

With its added MICR, the OcÉ ColorStream 3900 gives Microdynamics the ability to compete more effectively in the growing transactional document business, producing robust, color, customized transactional documents that double as powerful marketing tools.

"It's opened up opportunities in the form of new markets and new services, such as performance statements or wealth management packages," said Harter. "It's absolutely critical to competing for future deals, as well as retaining our current clients."

Microdynamics' newly expanded capabilities have positioned the company to meet the lofty expectations the industry has for the company by delivering an on-time, high-quality, cost-effective product every time.

"Microdynamics' high-profile clients demand quality and uptime, so it's incumbent on them to deliver the kind of service and output that will keep them coming back for more," said Francis A. McMahon, Vice President, Marketing, Production Print Solutions division of Canon Solutions America. "No matter what their clients send their way, the OcÉ ColorStream 3900 has given Microdynamics the ability to deliver on their promise of a high-quality, cost-effective solution."
