Managed Print Services Expands in Japan, While Click Charge Model Declines by 20 Percent

New study reveals key findings into Japan’s imaging market

Lexington, KY – September 14, 2010 – A new study by Photizo Group, the leading research and consulting firm in the managed print services industry, revealed there are clear signs the Japanese market is beginning to transition from its traditional “click charge” model based on digital copiers and MFPs, to an MPS model. While MPS market revenues are growing at 46 percent (from 2009 to 2010), the traditional “click charge” market is declining at 20 percent during the same period.

The “Japan Managed Print Services Market Report” will be released in October 2010 and examines Japan, an important influence within the Asia Pacific MPS market—the fastest growing MPS market worldwide.
Other findings of the Japan study include:
Non-Japanese contenders: Traditionally, Japanese vendors dominated this market. However, non-Japanese vendors such as IBM Global Services, HP and Lexmark are aggressively using their strong positions as MPS providers for multi-national corporations to gain a foothold here. Depending on market segment, non-Japanese technology vendors and service providers could emerge as significant competitors.

Unique market dynamics: Understanding the dynamics is key to success here. While North America and Europe have similar dynamics, the Asian market has unique requirements and will evolve in its own way. The market is undergoing rapid and significant change, which requires keen understanding of the changes to the entire MPS ecosystem, including vendors, distribution channels, infrastructure providers, and evolving corporate decision maker requirements.
Study Builds on Library of MPS Knowledge
“This represents another significant milestone set by Photizo Group in providing clarity and insight into the Asia Pacific managed print services market. The decision maker-based market intelligence and analysis reinforce our position as a thought leader in MPS. The study also complements our new 2010 research into the Australian, Chinese and Indian managed print services markets,” said Photizo CEO Ed Crowley.

Create A Winning Marketing Strategy:

Competitor’s Weak Spots: understand how satisfied customers are with their provider’s MPS offerings versus a competitor’s offerings
Asia Pacific: MPS Hotbed

The Asia Pacific arena represents enormous opportunities for managed print services vendors, dealers and resellers. According to Photizo Group research, this region is expected to grow to $8.2B by 2014. A $1.4B market in 2009, it is expected to grow at a compound annual rate (CAGR) of 40 percent into 2014, eventually reaching $8.2B by 2014. Anticipating the need for information and analysis about the market, Photizo Group opened a dedicated Asia Pacific office in February 2010.

The recent Asia Pacific MPS Conference in Singapore put the spotlight on the region. Market visionaries Fuji Xerox, HP, Ricoh, PrintFleet, FM Audit, NewField IT, SafeCom and Ringdale were among the sponsors and exhibitors for the first-ever event in the Asia Pacific region, which attracted over 100 attendees.
