A man is in custody after police found him in possession of nearly 1.4 million yuan ($202,000) in conterfeit bills.

The 65-year-old farmer surnamed Yang was detained at his home on November 23 in Dafang county, Guizhou Province.

Officers found stacks of counterfeits and a color copier.

Yang told police he had printed all denominations, from 100 yuan ($12) to 0.1 yuan. He even printed 2 yuan notes, which are no longer in circulation.

"I mainly used 10 and 20 yuan bills. I'd sometimes use the fake money together with real money," Yang told media.

Yang said he began counterfeiting because he wanted to build a big house like his neighbors. He also had plans to fix local roads and bridges with the fake cash.

Yang purchased a copy machine and used regular A4 sheets.

He admits he was cautious at first, trying out his forgeries to buy bus fare.

However, police traced the counterfeits to Yang's home, where they recovered nearly 1.4 million yuan in fakes.

Yang is currently behind bars. It was not reported if he has yet been charged.
