Would like to hear your thoughts on the new HP LaserJet 4345mfp.

HP does not require costly service contracts. Instead, customers are encouraged to decide what level of support best meets their business needs.

This seems like a bunch of Bull and double talk, on hand hand they are saying not take support and then on the other they are saying to take the best level of support that meets your needs!

We are changing the game today," Joshi explained. "We have spent the last few months working with our customers to develop a breakthrough approach for copiers. This is a fundamentally different approach, one that will change the game. We believe that the 4345mfp will get us 10 per cent of market share in the copier space."

Incredible statement, could it be true?

A few things I have found

[LIST]
  • Cartridge cost based on 5% (not 6%, that we copier people use) is $205.95, which represents a cost of .011441 per copy. Our toner yields are based on 6%, so we can add another 16% to their cost or add 16% to our yeild, thus the cost of .011441 increases to .01327 for the cartridge.
  • HP also charges for ADF Mylar repalcement sheets, HP care pack, 3 year 4 hour response 13x5x5 (whatever that means), and ADF maintenance kit, and an HP maintenance kit! The cost for these extras could be as much as .01 more per copy!

Lets look at the average user of 45ppm system, I would say the average volume is 12K per month, thus representing a volume of 144,000 copies per year. 5 year life cycle would represent almost 750,000 pages.

Lets use a average cpc of .0125 for our 2045 and estimate that the cost for the HP 4345 is .0195 with apples to apples.

That leaves a a difference in the cpc cost of .007 per page. Based on the life cycle of 750,000 pages, the HP customer will spend an extra $5,250!

From the surface the 4345 seems great! However the base model does not duplex copy, it copies at only 600 dpi, the copy speed is upto 600 dpi (something is not right with that), the standard paper supply is 600 pages, the ADF is 50 pages (NO RADF), no fax, FCOT is under 10 seconds! (That means it is over 9.5 and under 10 seconds) that is an eternity to wait in this segment of the market.

The weight of the unit is only 113 lbs, my goodness! I crap bigger than that Smile

There are four models, the base model is the 4345 MFP (NO FAX), the 4345xmfp (analog fax and color scanning, max paper is 1,100), 4345xsmfp (adds out put stack and staple), 4345xmmfp (adds mailbox function, still only 1,100 sheets.

As of this time I do not have pricing on the other systems.

I would tend to think that these units will be popular with IT managers, those who swear by HP, and those who are non-educated buyers (price buyers).

I believe this is a product we can beat every day of the week, the HP4345 will be a strong contender but has many weaknesses. Lets try and find out as much as possible and post it here in this forum. When we have enough infor I will design a "How2Beat the HP4345MFP" from the P4P Hotel.

Would like to hear from you all.

Some added comments. When reading the brochure, I interpret the scanner as such.

This system has a built in auto two sided scanner. Please can anyone elese4 clarify this. I will post the brochure here.

    Additions

    [LIST]
  • NO 11 x 17 Scanning or copying!
  • NO legal scanning
  • System will only scan 8.5 x 11.7!
  • 500 Sheet Stack Output Only!
  • NO 3 Hole Punching
  • 30 Page Max Stapling
  • Upto 45 ppm in Copy Mode "The word UPTO is a key for something"
  • HP says that you should add a 64mb chip to enhance the copy mode. Cost is a mere $468!
  • Cost of "On-Site" 4 Hour Service $2,099 (unlimited pages)

That's all for now, please feel free to add more!
  • This is an email from one of my sources.

Just talked to my "mole" within one of the larger regional HP providers.

Here's the real scoop on the 4345 mfp:

    FCOT = 4 seconds
Cost per page = $.014 from HP for service, supplies and 4 hour response.

The engine is the HP LJ 4300 reworked to print right to left instead of
    back to front.

CPC is high for a copier but the hardware price is half the cost of a
    copier mfp.
    Jayson:

The brochure states under ten seconds, would lead me to believe it is over 9 and under 10.

There has been no published yield yet for the maintenance kit, the ADF maintenance kit and the ADF mylar sheets.

Their cpc is based on 5% coverage and does not include the maintenance parts, no the on-site service.

    Is their anything I'm missing?

    Thanx

For the customer who does not need 11x17, book copy and prints alot more than they copy. The HP 4345 will foot the bill.

I have even thought about buying a few of these systems and reselling them with our own label for a few thousand above retail.

I don't know if I;ll ever do it, however its just a thought. I did a few comparisions with a Ricoh 600N, extra paper draw, duplex unit and then added the new IS 300e scanner from Ricoh. We still cam out a few thousand over. However it may be a solution that may work in several places.

I will be compiling a How2Beat the 4345 shortly, can you get me any of the inside info on the system as to what the PM kit is rated for, the ADF mylars and the ADF PM kit? Also and operators manual?

    Thanx
