Fairfield, N.J. – October 20, 2009 – Kyocera Mita America, Inc., one of the world's leading document solutions companies, today announced the expansion of its flagship TASKalfa multifunctional product (MFP) series with the launch of two black & white MFPs: the TASKalfa 520i (52 pages-per-minute) and TASKalfa 420i (42 ppm).

Combining the best of engineering with the needs of mid-volume workgroups and enterprises, the TASKalfa 520i/420i offer crisp 600 dpi image quality with fast and efficient print, copy and scan functionality. The TASKalfa 520i/420i is based on the company’s award-winning MFP engine technology that utilizes Kyocera’s patented long-life Amorphous Silicon drum – delivering more business “uptime” through an industry leading 500,000 page preventive maintenance (PM) schedule. This incredible PM interval ensures longer periods of time between required service visits, maximizing productivity and performance for end-users and providing the highest level of dependability.

“Businesses deserve superior imaging performance from a system that can integrate seamlessly within a company’s IT infrastructure and yet be simple enough for intuitive end-user operation,” said William Cassidy, associate director, Product and Solutions Marketing, Kyocera Mita America. “The TASKalfa 520i/420i delivers this caliber of performance, along with options for security, document finishing and paper handling features that make this a remarkably flexible and powerful multifunctional solution.”

From an 8.5 inch color touch screen panel, end-users can easily navigate the functionality and options of the TASKalfa 520i/420i multifunctional system. End-users can expect robust functionality with benefits like full-color scanning and a USB host interface for “on-the-go” document sharing and management.

Flexible and Versatile Features
Both the TASKalfa 520i and 420i offer fast and efficient print, copy and scan functionality, (as well as optional fax and internet fax capabilities) at a crisp 600 dpi image quality. To efficiently process documents and data, the memory capacity on both models is an impressive 2 GB of RAM and includes an industry leading 160 GB hard disk drive. To keep up with the rapid pace of business communications, Kyocera offers an advanced USB host interface that allows users true document portability with the ability to conveniently print-from and scan-to any USB drive in PDF, JPEG, TIFF and XPS file formats – all via the touch screen control panel. Scanned PDF documents can be password protected and encrypted - all directly at the touch screen control panel - and can be shared through functionality such as: scan to email, scan to folder, scan to FTP, scan to USB, and WSD scanning (Windows Vista).

Dual 500-sheet adjustable paper drawers come standard, along with a 200-sheet tray. Maximum paper capacity tops 4,200 sheets and a wide range of paper stock is supported, from 13 lb Bond up to 110 lb Index.

For complex document finishing needs, the TASKalfa 520i/420i offers multi-position stapling and hole-punch. The ability to create saddle-stitched booklets from either the desktop or hardcopy originals is available with an optional booklet folder.

Network and Security Performance
Performance of the TASKalfa 520i/420i is further optimized through Kyocera’s Hybrid Platform for Advanced Solutions (HyPAS). HyPAS is a powerful and scalable software solution platform, which optimizes the performance of Kyocera’s MFPs through custom, integrated software applications that are designed to meet and exceed users specific document imaging needs.

HyPAS is unique in that it offers both Java-based and Web Services-based Software Development Kits (SDKs), providing a more open and flexible platform; enabling advanced integration with systems that are already implemented in the enterprise. By combining these two technologies, HyPAS delivers expanded versatility and capability to companies, allowing for the quick delivery of solutions that work with select Kyocera MFPs.

The TASKalfa 520i/420i comes standard with Kyocera’s KX Driver, PDF Direct Print and PRESCRIBE Solution for on-demand black and white document creation and output. In addition, Kyocera offers advanced document workflow solutions such as KYOcapture and KYOcapture Express which integrate with many of the industry’s leading document management systems, including Equitrac, SentryFile, LaserFishe, Documentum, and Microsoft SharePoint; and flexible network and device management tools such as KMnet Viewer and PrintQ Manager.

For organizations concerned about securing their data, Kyocera offers a standard IPv6 compliant network interface, an optional Data Security Kit for hard disk drive overwrite and encryption, PrintQ Manager Secure Job Release and Secure Printing, and Custom Box for users - all of which are password protected document security features. A Security Watermark is also available to deter unauthorized reproduction of documents.

As with the entire TASKalfa MFP series, the new 520i/420i models deliver robust cross-platform compatibility, connecting to virtually any environment including Windows®, Mac and Linux, with the drivers, tools, utilities and software options to optimize workflow and help guarantee performance in any business. (The TASKalfa 520i and 420i are ready for Windows 7, which will be released shortly)

Finally, the TASKalfa 520i/420i embodies the goals of Kyocera’s worldwide Environmental Action Plan, constructed to guide the development of environmentally friendly office solutions that deliver superior energy and supply saving features without comprising performance. The TASKalfa 520i/420i is RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) and Energy Star Compliant, with a fast warm-up time, a power-saving sleep mode and low noise levels.
