Achievement by Business Technologies Production Site in Wuxi as First Among Group Companies
Tokyo (July 6, 2011) - Konica Minolta Business Technologies, Inc. (Konica Minolta) announced that Konica Minolta Business Technologies (Wuxi) Co., Ltd. (Konica Minolta Wuxi), one of its overseas production sites based in Wuxi, Jiangsu, has obtained Cleaner Production approval in China as first among the Konica Minolta Group companies.
Since the Cleaner Production Promotion Law was introduced in 2003 in the People's Republic of China, local governments across the country have been encouraging manufacturing plants to voluntarily carry out initiatives to reduce energy consumption, conserve resources and cut volume of waste in order to promote environmental footprint reduction in the manufacturing sector. With recommendation by Economic Development Bureau and Environmental Protection Bureau of Wuxi New District, Konica Minolta Wuxi applied for Cleaner Production 2010 approval and, after thorough governmental examination, was awarded with Cleaner Production approval by the local authorities as company that has achieved highly clean production.
Konica Minolta Wuxi has been vigorously driving environmental protection activities, including continuous promotion of initiatives for saving energy and reducing waste and calls for voluntary energy-saving improvement proposals from local employees. In obtaining the approval, the company was highly recognized for its comprehensive initiatives that range from in-house systems to recycle left-over plastic from molding process, a program which reduced volume of annual waste by about 1,000 tons by replacing corrugated cardboard cases, that accounted for around 90 percent of the overall waste, used for transportation of locally procured parts with returnable containers to the employees' uninterrupted efforts to save energy and water on a daily basis.
Going forward, Konica Minolta will continue to drive efforts for reduced environmental impact throughout the product life cycle, including environmentally conscious manufacturing activities at the production sites across the world, so that the company will contribute to the sustainable earth and human societies and fulfill its responsibility as global corporation.
