Subject: Introduction of the Konica Minolta bizhub 421 monochrome MFP
Konica Minolta is pleased to announce the introduction of the bizhub™ 421 printer/copier/scanner/
fax device. With print/copy speeds of 42 pages per minute (ppm), the bizhub 421 is ideal for mid- to
high-volume office environments that require a reliable, monochrome MFP with network capabilities
and flexible document finishing and distribution functionality.
Combining the best of what our monochrome engines have to offer, with the award winning design
and improved functionality of our mid-range color products, Konica Minolta has once again created
a winner with this new model. The bizhub 421’s striking new design features an all-new look and
feel, similar to that of color bizhub products. Featuring the InfoLine, users are provided with at a
glance machine status. Completing the white InfoLine is the stylish charcoal exterior, which allows
for placement anywhere in the office. The new design is rounded out with an 8.5” color touchscreen
control panel that tilts and rotates for easy accessibility.
Featuring a monthly duty cycle of 150,000 impressions, high toner yields, and PageScope™ network
management tools, the bizhub 421 brings a new level of performance and reliability to mid-to-largesized
offices. Functional highlights include: high output speeds; fast, flexible scanning up to 70
originals per minute (opm); 8.5” color touch-screen control panel interface; User Box and User
Authentication functionality; Konica Minolta Simitri® Polymerized Toner; and production-quality
finishing options.
Emperon® Print System
The bizhub 421’s optional IC-207 Image Controller is driven by the Emperon Print System. The
Emperon Print System allows for full control of the devices' printing and finishing options, and
provides for total integration of document output management with a simple, intuitive user
interface. The optional IC-207 includes PCL5e/PCL6, PostScript Level 3 emulation, and XML Paper
Specification (XPS) all at up to 600 dpi resolution (1,200 dpi equivalent x 600 dpi printing when
smoothing is selected).
Paper Handling and Image Quality
The bizhub 421 offers a maximum paper capacity of 5,650 sheets. Additionally, the ability to handle
from 5.5″ x 8.5″ to 11″ x 17″ paper at weights up to 110-lb. index provides users with a device that
meets their broad spectrum of printing/copying/scanning needs.
Featuring 600 x 600 dpi print and copy resolution with 256 grayscale levels, the bizhub 421
produces clear text, sharp edges and smooth halftones and provides special features such as
1,200 dpi equivalent print resolution that makes every document look more professional. The
bizhub 421 uses Konica Minolta Simitri Polymerized Toner with finer particles to sharpen edge
detail, improve halftone definition and make text more legible.
Advanced Security
The bizhub 421 offers User Authentication with NDS capability to protect a user job by prohibiting
its modification or deletion. With User Authentication, it is also possible to enable or disable each
user's access to the device based on function; copy, print, scan, fax and hold job control.
For added security the Biometric Authentication Unit provides high detection accuracy; vein
patterns of a finger are scanned, encrypted and stored and are used to distinguish and authenticate
individual users to the MFP. In addition, the bizhub 421 also supports the HID card authentication
option (available January 2009).
Optional High-Volume Faxing
Optional 33.6 Kbps, Super G3 analog FAX functionality is also available for the new bizhub 421 for
seamless productivity. The optional fax capabilities include 32 MB of memory for transmission and
reception of documents up to 11″ x 17″ with JBIG data compression and up to 600 x 600 dpi
resolution.
Production-Quality Finishing Options
Production-quality finishing options designed to handle a variety of in-house printing needs are
offered for the bizhub 421, including 50-sheet stapling; two- and three-hole punching; and saddlestitch
booklet making for up to 60-page booklets.
PageScope Software for Managing Documents & Devices
Available for the bizhub 421 is the PageScope Software Suite, Konica Minolta's family of integrated
software applications. The PageScope Software Suite delivers networked information flow from the
desktop, enabling businesses to manage their bizhub documents and bizhub devices more
effectively through a single interoperative system for increased efficiency. Included in this suite of
products are PageScope Net Care Device Manager and PageScope Web Connection.
