As Eastman Kodak Co. prepares for this year's largest print industry trade show, the company is going about it differently than in years past.

It’s not taking Kodak equipment with it.

Instead, the company is changing its trade show approach at Print 09, to be held in Chicago from Sept 11-16, with virtual displays and a talk show-like set of discussions about the commercial printing world.

“If you go back to Drupa (a huge print industry trade show in 2008), we took a lot of equipment and our real customers wanted an in-depth discussion … about technology and business enablement,” said Chris Payne, director of Kodak’s business-to-business marketing.

“They weren’t actually interested in looking at the equipment.”

Hundreds of print companies from across the globe will be at the annual show, including businesses ranging in size from Kodak, Xerox Corp. and their major competitors to small local firms such as U.K.-based Lake Image Systems Inc., which has a manufacturing operation in Henrietta, and mailing technology company BCC Software Inc. of Henrietta.
