Hyland Software Inc. of Westlake could be in line to make a giant acquisition.

Reuters reports that the business software company "is nearing a deal to acquire the software division of printer maker Lexmark International Inc. for nearly $1.5 billion, according to people familiar with the matter."

Hyland "has outbid private equity firms in an auction for Lexmark's enterprise software group, known as Kofax, and may reach a deal as early as next week, the sources said this week," according to the news services. Negotiations could still end unsuccessfully, they added.

A Hyland spokeswoman wrote in an email to Crain's on Wednesday morning, April 26, that "it is Hyland's corporate policy not to comment on acquisition rumors."

Buyout firm Thoma Bravo LLC, which owns Hyland, declined comment to Reuters.  read the rest here
