So I am curious what everyone is seeing with hiring people from that graduate to 28 age group. I think I've lost all hope in that age group the last couple months. I've heard more excuses about why they are quitting after such a short time I could throw up.

Some of my favorites or maybe better said the ones that make my blood boil have been "I don't think I can adjust to a 45 minute commute each morning with the traffic and having to get up early" or "I've been doing this for three weeks and I am not getting any traction or moving forward with the accounts I've called on, so I think I'm going back to my old job even though it paid me less." (Both have been true statements, not BS excuses just because they are taking another job somewhere)

We can argue that our hiring tactics are not what they should be but even more than that I cannot understand the mentality of the kids coming out of college. When I got out of college 10 years ago I went straight into this business, got toner in my blood and have worked my ass off to get to where I am. I work late, I work early, I work on holidays and weekends. We can't take a vacation unless there is cell service or at the very least wifi. I miss my kids school events at times to have customer meetings. I eat, drink, sleep and breathe this industry and can't believe what i see from the people we interview and/or hire. Where is the work ethic.

Anyway I'd like to hear from other about what you are seeing from that age group and how you've handled it or changed your strategy.

Surprising there are no replies yet. I would figure this to be a "hot" topic.  We recently found one in the age demographic that will work out.  He has more than a 45 minute ride, has closed a few orders already.

Maybe you need to show them $500 at the interview and ask how they would like to get that $500, by working a week or trying to talk you out of it.

After reading your thread it seems that neither of those "salespeople" have the "desire" to compete, yet alone the determination to "win".  Maybe focus more on those that played a team sport at a high level?
