GARY -- The Board of Works is considering a contract for multifunction printers that could save the city $360,000 over five years.

The printers are ones that are copiers, fax machines and scanners. City officials are working on the details and expect to award the contract to a Ricoh dealer next week.

The current contract covers 44 printers and costs $9,000 a month. The proposed new contract would cover 33 printers and cost $6,000 a month for five years, city information systems director Jamaal Washington said.

"Now we can retire older, less-efficient units and get some real savings," Washington said.
