In the end the strange case of fraud involving Xerox toner was not quite as large as once alleged — but it was still pretty big.

A federal judge Thursday sentenced three men for the fraud, once estimated to be about $24 million but ultimately decided to be closer to $9.5 million in loss for Xerox. While that's still a lot of money — and a lot of fraudulently sold toner — the difference shortened the possible length of sentences for the three men because of the factors considered in federal sentences.

Sentenced by U.S. District Judge Elizabeth Wolford Thursday were:

• Kyle Haynes, who received 30 months in federal prison.

• Bryan Day, sentenced to 27 months.

• Jason Haynes, the brother of Kyle, who received six months.

They will be responsible for nearly $9.5 million in restitution to Xerox.
