We have our first E-8000 Fiery controller in the field on a Ricoh 5560 and when the scanning function is used it locks up the machine and needs to be rebooted. Is anyone experiencing similar problems and does anyone have these in the field that are running with printing and scanning without any problems?

Are all of the available Fiery patches installed? It looks as though there have been 6 of them released to date. A few of them do mention addressing lock-up issues.

I would make certain all mainframe f/w and Fiery patches are up to date.

FWIW, I've got one with the E-7000 installed that has no issues scanning to e-mail....

What method of scanning are you using?
We have installed one of the patches. Our technician spoke with Ricoh and they said there is no fix for the issue right now and that the other patches will not do any good but that a beta version is circulating and new firware should be out in July. I just have trouble believing that this Fiery has been available for the time that is has and it has this problem still.
If you haven't had the opportunity to do this yet, please take the time to have your dealership set this up. We had a Fiery rep visit a week or two ago and we really learned what makes the difference between Fiery and GW controllers. I knew the advantages of the Fiery in theory but had very little practical knowledge to share (nor did I know what all of the options offered). This maybe something that other RFG dealers had on a regular basis as part of representative education, but this was the first experience we had in over 2.5 years. I highly recommend you contact your Ricoh rep and try to get this scheduled. The Fiery rep we had knew more about color theory and how to manage a controller w/software than I ever imagined someone would ever know. He also provided his contact info to deal with future Fiery potential situations as well as imageStoreFront and other production solutions. They very well may provide a rep with another avenue of communication to solve the type of problem in this discussion thread.
Can you provide more detail on the scanning situation? Does the controller lock up once you select the Scan tab? Or is it when you go into scan to email/LDAP? As someone pointed out, there are about six patches for the E8000 that should be installed.

As a separate note, there will be a new version of system software available that incorporates all of the patches and MS updates. Please contact your Ricoh ASM for a copy of it. It should help stabilize the E8000 operation.
The problem that we are having with the E-8000 scanning is with FTP. Scan to Email seems to work fine but once it is set up for FTP the system tries to reboot itself no matter if you go to the scan or print tab.

Has anyone experienced any issues scanning to FTP on the 8000?

We have not been given any ETA on the new system software. Anyone know when this should be available?
