09/23/09 -- As students and staff head back to schools and campuses across the country, CIOs and IT managers are increasingly aware of the need to drive down both overhead costs and waste on campus. Equitrac Corporation, an award-winning print and cost management solutions provider, has announced the availability of the latest version of Equitrac Express®, designed for colleges, universities and K-12 schools. Equitrac Express drives down document printing costs and print and toner waste, while enforcing student print quotas, eliminating unclaimed print jobs and providing convenient student payment integration options.

By combining the power of Equitrac with a current or planned campus card system, schools can easily enforce student print quotas, promote user convenience and mobility and enhance document security, while at the same time simplifying print cost accounting for both users and system administrators alike. Equitrac Express integrates with solutions from Blackboard® and CBORD® to let a campus card accounting system act as the single source for centralized accounting data. This means students and administrators need to maintain only one account and use only one card to pay for all of their print and copy activity.

"Creating accountability for printed pages on campus enables tighter controls on wasteful print spending," said Gaetan Spake, vice president of product management. "Equitrac Express offers schools print and campus card payment flexibility, while delivering a print management solution that supports the environmental conscience that has become part of leading academic institutions."

New in the latest version of Equitrac Express

Equitrac Express provides the scalability to manage from one to thousands of multi-function devices (MFDs), copiers and scanners on campuses and across school districts. With enhanced card balance management and user features that increase conveniences, Equitrac Express improves the student experience while reducing print operating costs and supporting environmental sustainability initiatives.

-- Advanced reporting capabilities - This version of Equitrac Office 4
offers enhanced reporting including more granular media usage, enabling IT
administrators to make more informed decisions about paper usage in the
printer network, driving down costs and reducing wasted paper supplies.

-- Convenient pop-up notification - End-user pop-up notification now
supports features such as hypertext links. Users can be directed to content-
rich information such as intranet pages describing print policies, or a job
ticket, while lowering a school's print costs by using the most cost
effective resources.

-- Student Campus Card Balance and Account Management - The cost preview
pop-up for Equitrac Express has been configured to display a campus card
balance (or balances for the case of multiple tender keys). Students now
have control over which of their accounts should be charged for a print job
at either a Release Station or PageCounter. This enhances the student
experience by enabling improved card balance management.

-- Web-based Release Station - The Release Station is now a web-based add-
on to Equitrac Express 4, allowing end users to log on and release print
jobs from common browsers. In addition to improving usability for the end
user, the Release Station minimizes the installation and maintenance burden
on the IT department since the need for a thick client is no longer
required.

-- Enhanced print control with Follow-You Printing® - Schools and
academic institutes with Xerox EIP and Sharp OSA3 devices can now offer
users the ability to override the print workflow default at the printer and
opt to print a color document in black and white. This new feature helps
minimize unnecessary color printing, which drives down costs.

-- Extended partner integration - Equitrac Express now supports Apple
Remote Desktop, direct IP printing to Macintosh workstations and both
PowerPC and Intel platforms. Additionally, the software supports iPrint on
Novell SUSE 10 OES2 SP1, Canon's GARO print driver, and greater security
features at the print spooler. Schools can save on licensing costs when
integrating Equitrac Express with Equitrac Embedded for Xerox EIP, or eCopy
ShareScan.

-- Greater licensing flexibility - Equitrac Express allows for a base
Enterprise license, providing customers a more affordable option to roll
out the features and functionality best suited to the school's needs.
