Ricoh Introduces Document Capture and Management Solution

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2002--

GlobalScan Offers Optimum Efficiency and Flexibility for the Capturing,

Distribution and Retrieval of Critical Business Information

Ricoh Corporation, the Dependable Digital(TM) output company, today

introduced its latest document capture and management solution, GlobalScan

at AIIM 2002 from March 6-8, at booth #1905 in the Moscone Convention

Center, San Francisco, CA.

This new technology, ideal for major corporations, government agencies and

service providers, performs as a digital document warehouse that accepts

scanned documents and creates, delivers and stores digital files for

electronic transmission over a network.

Complete access to GlobalScan's document capture and distribution features

can be done directly from a Ricoh Aficio MFP operation panel, providing

scanning, copying, printing, and faxing operations all in one footprint. By

combining these features in one MFP, organizations can reduce the high cost

of multiple desktop scanners and improve office efficiency in document

capture and distribution.

According to a recent Morgan Stanley CIO survey, CIOs will remain cautious

about IT spending in 2002. The percentage of CIOs indicating that the

slowing economy has caused them to re-evaluate their IT budgets within the

last month increased in November to 67% from 52% in October. To address

these budget restraints, Ricoh will continue to develop products that

provide affordable solutions to expand document management through the

integration of existing technologies.

Ricoh's GlobalScan server uses LDAP, a protocol directory service that runs

over TCP/IP, which can access unlimited addresses from an organization's

global address book directly from the MFP operation panel. In addition, the

Ad Hoc email address entry feature allows for the entry of any valid

Internet email address from the front panel, which is then sent as SMTP

file, transmitted with the scanned documents though the GlobalScan server

and immediately delivered to the appropriate party.

"Our solutions give customers the most applicable and affordable tools

necessary to enable them to work faster and smarter," said Jim Ivy,

President, Office Products Group, Ricoh Corporation. "By combining the

industries' most comprehensive hardware and software products, such as a

Ricoh Aficio MFP and GlobalScan, customers are provided with the

individualized solutions they need to succeed and edge out their

competition."

Through strategic partnerships with industry leaders such as Adobe, Kofax,

Doculex, Captaris and Equitrac, Ricoh's GlobalScan server will provide

flexibility to large organizations already utilizing industry proven

document management systems.

"This is a one stop solution for the workplace and Doculex is able to be

the conveyer belt within Ricoh's GlobalScan process," said David Bailey,

VP, Sales and Technical Development, DocuLex. "We monitor and further

understand the information and provide enhanced capabilities for indexing

and archiving a company's critical data."

GlobalScan is available at the suggested retail price of $14,995 and will

be demonstrated at AIIM 2002 from March 3 - 6, at booth #1905 in the

Moscone Convention Center, San Francisco, CA.

Art,
this would be great if Ricoh offered Scanning on its' high volume machines (i.e. 55, 70, 85, 105) I have a number of clients that only have 55 and above machines that could use this technology, if only. Any news on whether Ricoh will have these options on the next generations of 55-70's?

The rumor mill says that the replacements will be here 90~120 days from now, a 60 and a 70. The rumor mill also says that they will be using the GW architecture of the 10 series. This should bring scanning, Desktop Binder etc. to the faster machines. Since they will have an integrated controller, they won't be able to put Fiery's on them like they have the 551/700.

I have got to ask, how long have you all been doing this, I am under a year, but cannot seem to get my numbers even close to 100+K. February, I thought was pretty successful with 5 installatoins, and March looks like around 7 or 8. I realize that sucess comes with time, but what can you all suggest to accelerate the momentum. ?

Brian, as for me 4.5 years copier sales, but 17 total in sales. Copier sales to me are the easist sales in the world. Yes you have good and bad months, but everyone in business NEEDS what we have. Not so with other sales jobs. A business cannot operate these days without printers, faxes and copiers. Lately, you can add scanning to that list. With the advent of the doc mall and e-cabinet, once you get a customer using this type of technology, they will never be able to work without it, (or so they think). Also, you need to know how everything you sell works. There is nothing better than to be able to answer a prospects questions on the spot when other sales reps have to check it out. Knowledge will help your prospect gain confidence in you as a salesman and a person. That is one of the reasons Art put this club together. Hopefully, everyone that is plugged in to this club will gain knowledge that your competition won't have. Regarding getting your numbers up, I'm sure that Art, Pete and the rest will agree, you will wear out a lot of shoes and cell phones as well as tires to get comfortable in this business. You also have to be committed to being a digital sale rep (or whatever name you you). That's wear the knowledge, self-training and learning comes in. You have to make contacts, lots of them. Once you get one or two really good (or big) clients, they can be a springboard to others. Never underestimate the power of Word-of-Mouth. It will make or brake you in this business. So, always follow through with what you tell the prospect/client you will do. When you gain their trust, yo gain their business. Finally, I can only speak for myself on this one, but until I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior, and realized that without him with me everyday, all the calling and doorknocking in the world didn't matter. Yes, you will make sales and maybe a decent living, but personally I am now heading for the pinnacle of success. Even my bad months are what some salesmen and I used to call good. Enough of that for now. I'd like to hear from the others. If anyone wants, you are welcome to e-mail me. I would love to help and talk to others if I can.
