I'm writing another article for Office Dealer--this one on Dealer Training Programs.I'm familiar with most manufacturer's training programs, like Ricoh University. What I'd like P4P Hotel members to clue me in on is how helpful are manufacturer training programs and does your dealership offer anything above and beyond what is offered by the manufacturer? If so, what type of training and education is best handled internally within your dealership versus through the manufacturer?

Thanks in advance for your insights.

I don't think I would trust sales skills training to Ricoh. What they do as far as competitive info is pretty good but very spotty as far as its coverage. They do offer some "dated" stuff with every launch package but it might take a couple months after launch to get them.

Specialty products like Wide Format, Digital Duplicators, etc. you pretty much have to learn on your own.

All that having been said, I still think Ricoh does an awsome job.

I'd like to here from some dual line dealers on how other manufacturers compare.

I think Ricoh's training is excellent. Our dealership training is conducted at our weekly meetings. We concentrate more on the solution selling training than the hardware/software training hands on type training. We will roundtable our meeting and discuss the different solution sales, new products and solution features.

Our dealership does not ultilize Ricoh U as much as they use to, due to the cost associated with each class.
