The FBI announced it is investigating 100 different types of ransomware attacking firms in the U.S.

  • Des Moines Area Community Colleges in Iowa notified an unknown number of students that their info may have been exposed after a ransomware attack.
  • BioTel Heart of Pennsylvania notified an unknown number of patients that their PHI was exposed after a “data leak incident”
  • Navistar International Corp., headquartered in Lisle, Illinois, notified an unknown number of customers that their info may have been exposed after ransomware attack.
  • Patients are filing class action lawsuits after their PHI was exposed by a healthcare IT vendor, CaptureRx of San Antonio, TX.
    • Also named in the suit, are customers of CaptureRx, like Rite Aid Pharmacy Stores, headquartered in Camp Hill, PA and Walmart Pharmacy, headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas
    • The lawsuit is claiming that the stolen PHI is being marketed on the Dark Web for as much as $363 each.


  • The Diabetes, Endocrinology & Lipidology Center of West Virginia was ordered to pay a $5000 HIPAA fine.
  • Hoboken Radiology of New Jersey notified an unknown number of patients that they PHI was exposed after a “cybersecurity incident
  • NordLocker Cybersecurity is reporting that hackers have stolen 26 million logins for Amazon, Apple, Facebook and other tech giants after targeting PCs and making off with payment information from 3 million devices in latest major security breach
  • Wall Street Journal reported that an Eastern European group known as Ryuk has hit at least 235 facilities, raking in more than $100 million in ransom payments
  • Hill-rom, headquartered in Chicago, IL, notified customers of its Welch Allyn medical device management tools, that vulnerabilities discovered that could result in leakage of PHI.
  • LogicGate, a HIPAA risk consultancy firm headquartered in Chicago, IL, notified 47,035 patients that their PHI was exposed when a hacker accessed their backup data on a AWS cloud storage site.
  • MesaLabs, headquartered in Lakewood, CO, notified customers of its AmegaView hospital laboratory monitoring software that vulnerabilities have been discovered that could allow hackers to gain access.
  • University of Florida Health notified an unknown number of patients from The Villages Regional Hospital and Leesburg Hospital that their PHI may have been exposed after cyberattack.
  • The FBI announced it has arrested Alla Witte of Latvia, while she was on vacation in Miami, FL, and claims that she is part of the TrickBot hacking group in Russia.
  • IRS is investigating how ProPublica News was able to get income tax form information on 25 of the country’s most wealthy individuals, including Jeff Bezos and Warren Buffet.
  • The New York City Law Department notified an unknown number of citizens that their info may have been exposed after a cyberattack.
  • Intel Corp. announced availability of patches for 73 security vulnerabilities found in its computer processor chips.
  • Volkswagon Group/Audi of America, headquartered in Herndon, VA, notified an 3.3 million customers that their info may have been exposed after data breach.
  • Arnoff Moving & Storage of Poughkeepsie, NY notified an unknown number of customers that their info was exposed after data breach
  • Northside Gwinnett Hospital of Georgia announced that Vikas Singla was charged with conducting a cyberattack against the hospital, and is now facing up to 10 years in prison.
