County struggles to keep up with equipment needs

As anyone who’s tried to run a modern office can attest, without the right equipment, that effort is all but impossible.

However, the Barton County Commission turned a new corner in how to keep up with equipment needs this week when it approved a plan for four departments to lease, rather than purchase, electronic equipment.

The decision was reached after the commissioners met with Kenny Vink, of Office Products, Inc., to discuss the need for copiers and printers for four departments.

Commissioners approved a five-year lease program to provide the equipment for administration, 911, Sheriff’s Office and the County Attorney Office.

Vink explained that different offices need different equipment, depending on the copying and printing requirements,

However, one example he cited showed that in the Sheriff’s Office and County Attorney’s Office, the equipment changes could cut copies, per page, from 2-3 cents each to .009 cents. That doesn’t seem like much, until it is understood that the copier being replaced at the County Attorney’s Office has logged more than one million copies.
