Ran into a problem with a prospect printing to a Savin CLP240d where colors were incorrect.
Printing from MAC OSX, Adobe Illustrator.

Sent the file to my upline IT support and at first they were unable to recreate the problem. Then, they realized that they were using Creative Suite version 2 and the prospect has version 3. They were able to recreate the problem with version 3.

Now they believe their is a shortcoming in the hardware and "they do not see any adjustments in the near future on this engine".

This is a last ditch effort for a resolution. Has anyone else ran into this? See attached scanned samples of files.

You can get it from the Savin site. Your looking for the 2525/3030 (E-3000) PPD for the MacOS X (Ricoh calls it an E-5000 but it’s the same). No additional hardware is needed. I used it in a PC environment so I can’t tell you for sure it will work with a MAC but I don’t see why not. Postscript is Postscript.

Good Luck.
You do not need a Fiery. In fact Fiery is not an option for that model. The Firey Driver is nothing more then a postscript diver with a fancy face. You can use it to print to a non fiery device if it has postscript installed. . It will work. I've done it in a PC environment. You will some lose functionality because of loss of bidirectional communication.

I used it recently at a customer using a PC and running Adobe In-Design. The colors were way off and I tried every driver. When I tried the Fiery driver the color was right on. I couldn’t staple or tell the system that it had additional paper trays but the print quality was great and in this case that’s all the customer wanted. I also installed the regular PS driver for all other application that needed additional trays or finishing.

It may not fix your problem but it will print with no further cost to you or your customer.

The engine in the CLP240d is basically the same as the c3535/c4540. So go to the color multifunction drop down and select the C3535/c4540(E-5000) click go. Scroll down to the Mac OSX section and download the PPD Installer. The ppd installer contains the "driver". Run the ppd installer on the Mac just you would to install any printer on the MAC.

Basically the MAC thinks it printing to a C4540 with a fiery (postscript) but its not. It's really a CLP240d. As far as the CLP240d knows it's receiving postscript data. Remember the CLP240d will not have full functionality with the fiery driver. But the colors may be better.

This has worked for me in the PC world but I haven't tried it on a MAC but it should work

My tech support tells me that the ppd is not the driver.

They say A PPD (Postscript Printer Description) file is a file that describes the fonts, paper sizes, resolution, and other capabilities that are standard for a particular Postscript printer. A printer driver program uses a PPD file to understand the capabilities of a particular printer.

They say the driver is not located on the website and that it is actually on the Fiery. I'm not sure how you acheived the results you did. I really wish I could because it's very disappointing that the 240 has these flaws printing from an application that is fairly common when printing color.

This basically killed my deal. Thanks for the help though.
