PRESS RELEASE

United Kingdom, Republic of Ireland, 4th October, 2011 - Canon, world-leader in imaging solutions, today announces the launch of the imageFORMULA DR-M140 document scanner; a compact and versatile desktop scanner for productive document processing in busy office departments and workgroups.

The DR-M140 offers a compact shape with a U-turn design, and measuring less than 10cm in height, is small enough to fit into an office drawer for convenient storage and operation.

The imageFORMULA DR-M140 has the same reliable paper handling system as Canon's imageFORMULA DR-2580C. This robust feeding mechanism ensures that mixed documents are smoothly and reliably processed, while a selectable paper path means that the scanner can handle a wider variety of documents. It can scan A3 documents in folio mode and documents that are up to 3m in length such as till receipt rolls, as well as thick documents such as ID cards, credit cards or embossed card.

Sean Suematsu, European Document Scanning Solutions Director, Canon Europe says, "The imageFORMULA DR-M140 builds on the success of the popular DR-2580C with an intelligent design and a number of innovative, technological advancements that meet our customers' needs for fast, accurate and reliable scanning. This compact desktop scanner provides reliable document processing at high-speeds, for mission critical and decentralised scanning in SME's and corporate workgroups. Through innovative design, we are providing our customers with an attractive alternative in a booming and busy market."

The DR-M140 is robust enough to process up to 6,000 scanned documents per day making it ideal for larger batch scanning jobs. Ultrasonic-double-feed-detection identifies mis-feeds during batch scanning, while a double feed release (DFR) feature allows users to conveniently ignore double feeds and continue scanning in special cases, for example, when scanning an envelope or a document with a sticky note attached.

The DR-M140 maintains productivity levels - scanning up to 40ppm/80ipm in colour - even when scanning at higher resolutions of 300 dpi. This improves accuracy in document data recognition and OCR applications enabling businesses to extract customer reference numbers and details for faster processing.

High quality image processing features include auto colour detection, text orientation, auto page size detection and skip blank pages that can boost productivity and maintain a high level of accuracy.

The new desktop scanner also includes a professional bundled software suite with direct connectivity to SharePoint. Powerful software tools for batch and ad hoc scanning including CaptureOnTouch, CapturePerfect, eCopy PDF Pro Office, and Kofax VRS. The DR-M140 supports scanning to multiple file formats including PDF-A, the industry standard for long term archival, and PowerPoint.

Pricing and Availability

The imageFORMULA DR-M140 will be available in the UK and Ireland from early November 2011, priced at £879 / €995 incl. VAT
